Meri Uraan (telefilm) starring Anika Zulfikar and Syed Shahroz Sabzwari aired last week – and here’s what it offered: a refreshing take on ambition, identity, and the stubborn societal norms that try to clip a woman’s wings.

Meri Uraan: 4 Dialogues Roha Spoke For Every Girl Fighting For Her Dreams!

Pakistani storytelling is in an interesting phase right now. We’ve moved from the classic hero-heroine tropes to powerful female-led narratives – stories that are roping in viewership for larger-than-life storytelling. 7th Sky Entertainment has been at the forefront of this change. From Mannat Murad to Khaie, and the currently airing Dayan and Mohra, they’ve consistently pushed strong women into the center of their scripts. Meri Uraan joins that list – planting yet another solid block in the wall against regressive thinking.

The Story

Roha (Anika Zulfikar) belongs to a middle-class family. She’s studying architecture, but her ambitions go beyond textbooks. She dreams of starting “Malik Builders” – her own construction company – inspired by her father and uncle’s decades-long work as contractors for bigger builders. She doesn’t just want to work for someone else; she wants to build something of her own, with her family name shining on the board.

But instead of encouragement, Roha faces pushback – from society, relatives, and even the people she loves most. In their eyes, big dreams are for men, while the safest path for a girl is to marry someone already financially settled. Roha refuses to accept that. She pushes back, not with noise for the sake of rebellion, but with reason, dignity, and determination.

And in doing so, she speaks for countless women who’ve been told to “stay in their lane.”

4 Things Roha Told Girls Who Put Their Dreams On Hold For Marriage & Societal Pressure

“Mujhe apni hudood maloom hai, aur apne huqooq bhi.”

Roha

Roha reminded girls here that it’s not enough to know your limits – you must also know your rights. Society often exploits women who don’t understand what they’re entitled to, twisting “boundaries” into cages. Roha flips that by saying, “Yes, I know where the lines are, but I also know the space I deserve to occupy.”

“Apni shanakht banao, apna mustaqbil apne hathon me lo.”

Roha

This isn’t just career advice – it’s life advice. Roha tells every girl that identity and future are things you shape yourself, not gifts you wait to receive. Too often, women are told to be patient for “the right time” or “the right person” to define them. Roha’s words are a polite but firm “no, thank you.”

“Apnay paeron py khari hojao, shadi tou baad me kar sakti ho.”

Roha

Here, Roha isn’t rejecting marriage as the only and first priority for girls – she’s simply re-prioritizing. She tells girls to secure their independence first. Financial and emotional stability make marriage a choice, not a necessity. It’s a fine line, but it shakes the age-old timeline that has pressured generations of women.

“Jo larki degree hasil karne k liye mehnat karti hai na, woh apna career zaroor pursue karegi, aur usay rokna ziyadti hai.”

Roha

This one hits hard. A woman spends years earning a degree, sacrificing time, energy, and sometimes even health – and yet, in many homes, she’s told to set it aside for “more important things.” Roha calls that what it is: injustice. Too often, families want a bahu with a doctor’s degree, not a doctor who is actively serving. Education isn’t a decorative achievement to be flaunted in wedding proposals; it’s a tool to build a life, a career, and independence.

Why It Matters

What Meri Uraan does well is show ambition not as arrogance but as self-respect. Roha’s words aren’t loud slogans; they’re relatable, grounded truths. And Anika Zulfikar delivers them with a sincerity that makes you think of your sister, your friend, or maybe even yourself.

Syed Shahroz Sabzwari as Murtaza adds balance – he’s the other side of society, someone who doesn’t try to control Roha’s path but stands firmly against the injustice holding her back. His support is a reminder that men, too, can be allies in breaking old patterns – and Shahroz delivers it with a moving performance.

While we’re shedding light on the dialogues, it would be unfair not to credit the writer, Zanjabeel Asim Shah, for penning the words, and the director for bringing it all to life. Shehrazade Sheikh and Muskaan Kadwani’s notable contribution in translating the story to screen, the color grading, pacing, and overall tone kept it authentic and relatable, making it feel close to real life.

If you’re looking for a breezy vacay/weekend watch that doesn’t take a lot of your time, Meri Uraan is it.
