Mujhay Qabool Nahi Airs First Episode Tonight
While the story revolves around Salman aka Sami Khan, the psycho husband material we’ve often seen played out, (but Sami Khan does it with a twist always), Mahira aka Madiha Imam, the suffering wife (but hopefully she will turn defiant), and Atif aka Ahsan Khan whom we’ve seen so often play a grey villain role that we’re happy to have him back as out hero! Throw your minds back to Qissa Meherbano Ka, Qayamat, Udaari & Fraud), and you’ll get the drift!
Madiha is married off to Sami Khan’s character Salman essaying the role of a psychotic, manipulative character. While many argue that we’ve seen this angry man narrative play out plenty, (Tinkay Ka sahara with Sonya Hussyn and earlier, Dulhan), we hope the narrative keeps it real for all those women suffering real life abuse at the hands of their partners.
While the story might have played out earlier in multiple dramas, the rising statistics of marital abuse in our society keep the narrative relevant. It is a challenge for creators though, to keep it real as well, so that those watching can make gains from a scenario they might face or have seen played out in real life.
Hence we hope the drama sends out real messages and uplifts those who need it. It is high time our dramas show that women can get help from NGOs and police/ private networks, support groups to curb the abuse rather than look towards another man to save them.
There is hope though as all 3 actors have often played characters that send out progressive messages to audiences. Most recently Madiha Imam starred in Chauraha which handed out a relevant, youth oriented narrative essaying repercussions.
Will the drama take this route? It’s too early to say, but a trigger warning would greatly help viewers understand the nature of the content that lies ahead. (though the the trailer gives fair warning too). Her character Zoya was both outspoken and gathered strength despite her many challenges. Sami Khan too, as Asfandyar opposite Sonya Hussyn in Saraab has given us an exceptional character and a positive hero.
