Read more about twitter audiences highlighting Saad’s grey streak and Maheer speaks finally in latest episode of Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha.

The moment we all had been waiting for is here. Truth be told, we had kind of given up on Maheer but she finally assured us she has a voice and has awoken from deep slumber. Throughout the countless tragedies and trials Saad’s been through, *when she was strangely MIA), this time something struck a chord inside her and made her defend Saad passionately before her mother, Anabia and even Areeb. (Yeah, we’re right there with you cheering, finally!)
If truth be told, we had to pinch ourselves to believe it was actually happening, was Maheer actually being jealous, protective, defensive about Saad? Maheer comforting him and holding onto Saad for the first time was almost enough for us to forgive her multiple silent moments – a slight sense of relief for Saad! However, we have some major reservations about the episode below:
The Conversation That Needs To Be Had
But let’s cut to the chase to what seems to have started a conversation on twitter and something that startled us too was the entire topic of “allowing” Maheer to work.
It was unsettling because Saad’s character has been shown in a positive light since the get-go and the moment he asks Maheer to not work or even talk about it was a shock for audiences. Saad was the one who would always be in her corner, defend and trust her before others and didn’t judge her like the rest of society. The character was beautifully written and people loved him so much with a considerable fan following. Thus it was a tad unexpected of him to have showed that side of him, we thought he would give in and say yes.
Perhaps it’s the greyness of his character because we can relegate it to an orthodox upbringing, (although, mind you, if he had been a negative character we would not have gone so light on him), but we give Saad the benefit of the doubt that he refused Maheer more from his own sense of low self esteem or insecurities in fulfilling his responsibilities than any other regressive-minded motive. It is interesting though, how the writer has penned Saad’s character which reflects many men around us who are caring, pampering, attentive, but don’t want their wives to work, and their partners give in, just like Maheer, because, well, he’s a nice guy?
When do women compromise on their freedom of choice and when is it doing it voluntarily, all for love? Maheer’s reaction strikes a fine balance here where she gave in instantly and defended his decision before Anabia too – could it be love?
Having said that, it would be imperative to note that if Saad hadn’t landed that job, Maheer’s work could have helped lessen the pressure if only slightly, a choice many couples need to consider and Saad refusing to acknowledge this reality is damaging, in a way for many who are equally restricted in their choices because well, their husband’s are nice guys but don’t want them to work!
Being Just A Beti Is Enough Too!
On another note: a beti can earn, sustain her household, help her parents just as well as a beta can. Why do we still have to address the issue of being financially responsible by virtue of being a beta when instead, we can just call it being a responsible? POV, do tell us what you think.
