Oscars 2026: The Moments That Defined the Night

For me, the Oscars are the holy grail of award shows. The build-up is real, the hype is real, and I genuinely wait for the night like it’s an event. From the red carpet arrivals to the speeches that end up trending for days, the Oscars always deliver something memorable.

And this year? The moment I saw Michael B. Jordan among the nominees, I was practically sold. But beyond the wins and the trophies, the night gave us a mix of emotional moments, political statements and some pop-culture nostalgia that had everyone talking.

1. Michael B. Jordan winning Best Actor for Sinners

This award season has been a whirlwind for Michael B. Jordan, the Sinners and Creed star, and honestly, watching it all come together at the Oscars felt emotional. For fans like us who’ve been following his career for years, this win felt long overdue but completely deserved.

Jordan has this ability to completely blend into his characters — you stop seeing him and start seeing the story. During his speech he also acknowledged the icons who paved the way, mentioning names like Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx and Will Smith. It was one of those moments that reminded you that every big win is also built on the work of those who came before.

2. Javier Bardem speaking up for peace

Javier Bardem has long been vocal about justice and humanitarian issues, and this year he didn’t hold back. On the Oscars stage he called for peace and a ceasefire for Palestine, using the global spotlight to say what many people wish more celebrities would.

On the red carpet, Bardem also spoke about the badge he was wearing — something he had previously worn during protests against the Iraq war. Now it symbolised solidarity with people facing conflict in different parts of the world. Small gesture, yes, but on a stage watched by millions, it matters.

And honestly, moments like these make you wish more people would use their platform. Priyanka Chopra was right there, smiling through the moment — girl… you’ve been a UNICEF ambassador since 2010 nationally and 2016 globally. That stage could have used your voice too.

3. Avengers nostalgia on the Oscars stage

Sometimes the Oscars also give us moments that feel like pure fan service.

When Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. walked on stage together to present Best Original Screenplay, the internet collectively lost it. Their banter instantly brought back all the Avengers memories, and the mention of the franchise’s anniversary had fans screaming.

For a few minutes it didn’t even feel like the Oscars anymore — it felt like a Marvel reunion, and honestly, we were here for it.

4. Ryan Coogler winning Best Original Screenplay for Sinners

The night also belonged to Ryan Coogler, who took home the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Sinners.

Coogler has always been a storyteller who blends powerful themes with compelling narratives, and Sinners clearly struck a chord this year. Watching him accept the award felt like a big moment not just for the film, but for the kind of storytelling that pushes boundaries and stays with audiences.

5. The Voice of Hind Rajab cast speaking up

The Voice of Hind Rajab was nominated for  Best International Feature Film and although it didn’t win, it did leave a mark. A moment that stood out came from the cast of The Voice of Hind Rajab, who used their presence to advocate for a complete ceasefire and an end to war in regions including Palestine, Iran, Venezuela and other conflict-affected areas.

It was a reminder that even on a night filled with glamour and celebration, there are voices trying to bring attention back to the real world and the people who need it most.

6. Anna Wintour and Anne Hathaway giving The Devil Wears Prada energy

And then there were the moments that were just pure pop culture fun.

Seeing Anna Wintour and Anne Hathaway together instantly brought back all the Devil Wears Prada vibes. Fashion queen and Andy Sachs in the same frame? The internet obviously ran with the comparisons, and honestly, we loved every bit of it.

That’s the thing about the Oscars — yes, it’s about the awards, but it’s also about the moments in between. The speeches that make you emotional, the reunions that spark nostalgia, and the voices that use the stage to say something bigger than just “thank you.”

And if this year proved anything, it’s that the Oscars still have the power to give us moments that stay with us long after the night ends.
