Before 2024’s Ramzan Dramas, let’s revisit the on-screen magic of duos from previous years.

Ramzan is a joyous month for Muslims worldwide, but for us Pakistanis, what adds an extra dose of excitement is our Ramzan dramas. These shows cover everything – family drama, sweet love stories, and laugh-out-loud comedy. What sets them apart? Well, they’re far from the usual stuff, the ‘roti bahu,’ ‘zaalim saas,’ or roles switched around. We’ve had our fill of intense rivalry dramas, and now we’re craving a breath of fresh air, ramzan dramas deliver just that – no unnecessary tears, no irrelevant plot twists. It’s all about love, family bonds, and lighthearted comedy.
Every Ramzan, we get treated to a fresh batch of dramas with diverse storylines – from a girl dodging studies for marriage to another dreaming of setting her own chai dhaaba through shortcuts. The characters, be it determined guys or goofy girls, each bring their own flavor to the screen. But what’s a constant in Pakistani dramas? A sprinkle of love in every storyline, and you know what? We can’t get enough of it! This year, like every other, is introducing new on-screen pairs, but before we dive into that excitement, let’s rewind and cherish the unforgettable chemistry of some past duos that still linger in our hearts.
Let’s look back at 5 on-screen couples we absolutely loved!
Bela & Basim – Ishq Jalebi

In Ishq Jalebi, Madiha Imam and Wahaj Ali stole the show as Basim and Bela, bringing a delightful mix of story and chemistry to the screen. Basim, in pursuit of a shortcut abroad, teams up with the spirited Bela – his partner in mischief and his cousin who found her way into the family after being orphaned. Basim’s epic love confession in Ishq Jalebi was a win-win scene – no candlelit dinners or roses, just a straight-up, in-your-face declaration, ‘Possessive horha hun kyun k mohabbat karta hun tmse’. And oh, the silence that followed from Bela! It was like a love-you-too shouted in quietude that we all heard. Their chemistry was a full package – from adorable bickers to deep love, friendship, and genuine care. Ishq Jalebi served up a rollercoaster of emotions, and we were hooked for every sweet, spicy, and heartwarming moment!

Neha & Adam – Hum Tum

Imagine a love story that kicks off with a rivalry – sounds like the perfect recipe for drama, right? Well, that’s exactly what happened with Neha and Adam, the dynamic duo played by Ramsha Khan and Ahad Raza Mir in Hum Tum. Neha and Adam stole the show with their unique blend of entertainment. From the mischievous ‘Chughal Khor Adam’ to the head-over-heels romantic, their on-screen chemistry was nothing short of magic. It wasn’t all roses and rainbows – they served up sizzling fights, passionate disagreements, and every shade of a real love story. Hum Tum unfolded as more than just a story; it was a rollercoaster of emotions, making it a love story worth remembering – and rooting for!

Arsal & Jiya – Suno Chanda

Suno Chanda – a story as old as time, a romance brewing between two cousins thrown into a nikah but despising each other, only to inevitably fall head over heels. Now, doesn’t that ring a dozen bells? But what set this drama apart was the stellar chemistry cooked up by the lead couple, Farhan Saeed and Iqra Aziz, portraying the characters Arsal and Jiya. Arsal, far from the perfect gentleman, dished out tantrums and stubbornness with a side of bad temper. Yet, underneath it all, he revealed a genuine concern for his family and wife and a worry about his marriage. Sounds contradictory, right? Well, that’s the beauty of Arsal – not a fictional hero but a portrayal of a normal man with flaws and heart. On the other side, Iqra Aziz rocked Jiya’s character, a feisty, outspoken girl who refused to conform to the typical ‘bahu’ mold, embracing her headstrong personality till the end. Their on-screen squabbles and undeniable chemistry had us all rooting for them, making Suno Chanda a memorable and enjoyable watch, despite society’s obsession with the goody-two-shoes heroines. Jiya, with her stubborn charm, managed to break the mold and become a truly likable character, adding a refreshing twist to the usual drama fare.
Suno Chanda was Saima Akram Chaudhry and directed by Aehsun Talish. It is produced by Momina Duraid Productions. The cast features Farhan Saeed, Iqra Aziz, Samina Ahmed, Farhan Ali Agha, Farah Shah, Adnan Shah Tipu , Nabeel Zuberi, Mashal Khan, Nadia Afghan, Sami (Child Artist), Mizna Waqas, Mohammad Ahmed and others.
Meenu & Faazi – Chupke Chupke

In Chupke Chupke, Ayeza Khan as Meenu and Osman Khalid Butt as Faazi, aka Meenu’s Ustaad Jee – a relationship that started with studies and ended up in the unexpected territory of marriage. Faazi, the once strict teacher, turned into not-so-secret admirer of Meenu’s innocence, despite her earlier carelessness towards studies. Meenu, the goofy girl dreaming of escaping studies through marriage, and Faazi, the epitome of punctuality and education enthusiasm, couldn’t be more different. Yet, their unconventional affectionate gestures turned their story. What was initially embarrassment evolved into genuine feelings, making the storyline all over more interesting. As Meenu and Faazi navigated their differences, we witnessed the beautiful unfolding of a love story that highlights how opposites attract – from falling for each other’s perfections to embracing their imperfections, it was a journey that kept us hooked and entertained.
It was written by Saima Akram Chaudhry and directed by Danish Nawaz. It was produced by Momina Duraid Productions. The cast includes Osman Khalid Butt, Ayeza Khan, Hira Soomro, Muhammad Qavi Khan, Tara Mahmood, Sidra Niazi, Arsalan Asad Butt, Farhan Ally Agha, Sheheryar Zaidi, Salma Asim, Asma Abbas , Uzma Beg, Mira Sethi, Ayesha Mirza, Arsalan Bin Naseer, Ali Safina, Aymen Saleem, Abdul Hadi, Areesha (Child) & others.
Umeed & Farjaad – Fairytale

Umeed, the goofiest and carefree dreamer, and Farjaad, the epitome of punctuality and rules. At first, these two were like oil and water – Umeed couldn’t stand Farjaad’s ‘Gharyaal’ ways, and Farjaad found Umeed’s carelessness unbearable. However, as fate would have it, their story takes an unexpected turn. Umeed, a middle-class girl with dreams of a lavish life, stumbles upon a chance to make her dreams come true. Adding to the fairytale charm, one delightful element we absolutely adored was the portrayal of Farjaad as not just a traditional damaad but as a man who’s a constant support to everyone in his in-laws’ household. Unlike the usual protocol-driven characters, Farjaad values family feels over formalities. These instances, rare in typical dramas, added a refreshing twist.
Fairytale was written by Sarah Majeed and directed by Ali Hassan. It was directed by Momina Duraid Productions. The cast features Ali Safina, Sehar Khan, Hamza Sohail, Saleem Sheikh, Adnan Raza Mir, Aena Khan, Salma Hasan, Tehseen Wajahat, Hina Rizvi, Saman Ansari, Amna Youzasaif and others.
These unexpected dramas and pairings took us by surprise, and once they graced our screens, we couldn’t help but fall in love with them. Ramzan dramas should always maintain this cozy, enjoyable vibe – a perfect blend of pure love, a dash of comedy, and relatable storylines. As we eagerly await this year’s Ramzan dramas, our excitement is through the roof! The anticipation for the soul-soothing OSTs, intriguing pairings, and the magic waiting to unfold has us counting down the days.
