The drama creators must be appreciated for highlighting a very relevant topic and a prevalent issue in the times of social media. Rameen, a digital content creator tastes the negative side of fame when one of her dance videos goes viral and many people question her character. The drama also shows a strong and positive male protagonist who supports Rameen no matter what. He trusts her and doesn’t allow any of the negativity to affect their relationship – what a beautiful message for all the men out there.
It was great to see Rameen negotiating her terms with the designer and not feeling intimidated to say yes despite the fact that this was probably her first high profile commercial break. Again, this can serve as a learning point for other creators not to compromise on their comfort zone. Shohzeb’s character too, was a breath of fresh air as male characters go. He was encouraging, not exploitative and clearly positive about Rameen’s success.
But Some Messages Were Compromised
However, unfortunately, the drama compromised its own objective when the famous designer calls Rameen and tells her to take advantage of this negative publicity. We request production teams to be careful in the message they are sending out. While many people do become a target of negative and false publicity, at the same time this message could lead others to purposely create such content and resort to shortcuts to achieve overnight fame.
Fame due to this negative publicity alone should not have given the boost to Rameen’s success. The drama could have focused on the fact that she continued to get work based on her previous, quality work – another very important message that needs to be sent to the entire industry of creators and brands. Also, we can avoid stereotyping religiously inclined people as the only ones who would be judgmental or bring religion into this online trolling. Negative comments, judging others without knowing the truth, and character assassination is common, and you will find non-religious people doing it too.

Sar-e-Rah is touching upon many new topics for sure and showing us new solutions for old problems as well as giving us new and positive role models. The series format in one episodic stories is so very engaging. The execution from beginning to end, is well-knit, detailed, and delivers a complete story line without compromising on the narrative or message.
