Swyft Logistics Becomes Pakistan’s First Company To Introduce Paid Period Leave!

For most women, menstruation causes extreme discomfort. However, in around 5% to 10% of women, menstrual pain is “severe enough to disrupt their life.”

–Women’s Health Concern

In a historic development, Swyft Logistics has become the first Pakistani company to introduce paid period leaves for women, calling it “Monthlies.” Swyft Logistics through this step aims to take a step towards inclusivity and encourage their 30% female personnel to focus on their well-being. It will be a one-day monthly leave for female employees on their menstrual days.

This is a landmark decision especially in a country where something as natural as menstruation is a taboo subject, where sanitary napkins are hidden in brown paper bags (because God forbid if a man catches a glimpse of that pack of menstrual pads in your hand, he will think you are going through a natural biological phenomenon!) – this policy is being accepted with open arms and being appreciated country-wide and rightfully so.

Celebrations All-Around

As expected, the decision has garnered tons of positive attention. Here is what people are saying on Twitter.

“Swyft Logistics has established a “period policy” calling it “Monthlies” for its 30% female personnel. Employees can take leave during their periods without having to pretend to be “ill” or deal with the stigma associated with menstruation #PeriodMatters.”

“I must appreciate that Swyft is the first company introducing a period policy. Women can now take time off to help them manage their periods, pre-approved 12 annual leaves calling it Monthlies!#PeriodMatters #SwyftLogistics.”

“This is the true feminism that is required to understand for the society. This is the actual meaning for the feminist movement ; really appreciated. its not enough; Government also should announce it in all the sectors for the women.”

“How do you make sure your female employees feel safe and secure at work? You introduce female-friendly policies to facilitate them, especially in Pakistan. Hats off to Swyft Logistics for championing women’s rights by introducing Monthlies.”

We are glad Swyft Logistics has started this conversation and we hope this move becomes a norm and other Pakistani companies follow suit. It is high time people realize it is not something to hide or be embarrassed about. Periods matter and period leave is just as valid as medical leave.

We applaud Swyft Logistics for prioritising women’s health and setting an example for other Pakistani companies to follow. We hope this is just the start. Keeping our fingers crossed!
