It has been considerably long since we felt like we had been moved by a Pakistani drama to this extent. Last night’s episode makes you imagine a parallel universe where you wonder what it would be like to see the world outside after 20 years of life on earth. Its bewildering to ponder over what our reaction would be, what would we be feeling at a moment so indescribable? Rarely has any Pakistani drama entranced us to a world of such riveting tales before. The story is exceptionally new, engrossing, magical and takes a deep dive into all the possibilities and stories that could be lived out in the world.
Mawra’s performance compelled us to feel all the same range of emotions as hers – as Agha Jan announced her mothers death, we felt a pang of pain, our breaths stopped and we felt all a gut wrenching sadness. When she tried to run away, we felt endangered, we felt fearful. We felt the weight of the fears of a father, the bewilderment at her first peek into the outside world, discovering using a phone, figuring out cars, trains and that the internet is all real. Her fear and child like reluctance to leave Agha Jan. Even Agha Jan’s emotions as a father who faces the sorrow and distress of letting her daughter out into the real world beyond the confines of the dungeon were so engrossing. Its safe to say we were an absolute ball of tears last night. Nauroz and Mawra Hocane have us on the hook!
