The mega movie Oppenheimer releases in cinemas today. Twitter verdicts are coming in, so is it living up to the hype or not?
As history will remember how the year 2023 saw the battle of the 2 most iconic movies clashing in cinemas, a kind of battle seen after quite a while. The two mega movies, Barbie & Oppenheimer both release on the same day on 21st July. Fans have been quite busy debating which movie will garner more views, which movie suits whose personality and what dressing up for Oppenheimer VS Barbie would look like.
Oppenheimer is a historical thriller, based on a real life story of “the father of atomic bomb”, J. Robert Oppenheimer. The movie essays the late scientist’s rise as an esteemed scientist to the controversy that enveloped him as the creator of the atomic bomb. It is based on his biography – chronicles of the creation of the atomic bomb. The Peaky Blinders favorite Cillian Murphy is the lead along with a star studded cast including Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon and Florence Pugh. It is directed by famous, five-time Oscar nominated film maker, Christopher Nolan who is venturing out into a new genre of biopics with his new release.
Apart from the hype, if like us you are faint hearted and are wary of the gory and disturbing scenes, here are some initial verdicts from Twitterverse on Oppenheimer to help you decide or know what to expect:
Grief, Guilt, American Geo Politics & Moral Values
“Watched #Oppenheimer and Christopher Nolan Delivers another masterpiece. The way Oppenhiemer builds up through the points of self discovery. Grief and Guilt. American Geo Politics, with sense of Moral values ending on superb Interrogation Drama. Cillian Murphy-Robert Downey Jr.”
The Other Side Of Being Pretty Crappy For Non-White Americans
“The other side of the Oppenheimer story — like much of American history — turns out to be pretty crappy for the non-white Americans. This thread is yet another chapter of our history untold.”
Bringing The Complex & Conflicted Scientist To Life
“Cillian Murphy gives a tour-de-force performance as J. Robert Oppenheimer, bringing the complex and conflicted scientist to life in all his brilliance and anguish. Robert Downey Jr. is also excellent as Lewis Strauss, the man who would ultimately bring Oppenheimer down.”
As Brilliant As Interstellar, Inception, The Dark Knight…
“To all those people asking me where do I rank #Oppenheimer in Nolan’s filmography You could never rank Interstellar, Inception, The Dark Knight, Prestige and Oppenheimer in an order All of them are equally brilliant”
Glossed Over The Actual Victims Of The Atrocities
“People seem to love #Oppenheimer but I’ll just say it: I was uncomfy watching yet another movie about tortured white male genius when the victims of the atrocities glossed over by the script—Japanese people, interned Japanese Americans, and Native Americans—had no voice.”
Don’t Watch If You Don’t Want Potential Nightmares
“I’m baffled by the Oppenheimer takes but I’m going to not get involved in the discourse. It’s a brilliant film. 10/10 Masterwork from Nolan. I just woke up from nightmares from it.”
Apart From The No VFX, Music, Cillian Murphy & Robert Downey Jr, It’s Average!
“bruh nolan denoted the real bomb in this movie, no vfx, intense background music and the black n white colors was dope cillian murphy and robert downey jr both were lit otherwise movie was average #oppenheimer“
While many threads on twitter (no pun intended) are suggesting its a gory, a bit disturbing and loud movie. Some are also saying they wouldn’t really re watch it. Though overall the initial reviews suggest Christopher Nolan might have given another hit once again. So what are you rushing to watch first: Barbie or Oppenheimer?
