Zahid Ahmed and Zara Noor Abbas unite on screen for a story that promises to be both gripping and heartbreaking – a deeply human tale of a man gradually losing himself to the unforgiving grasp of dementia.

The upcoming Express Entertainment drama, still untitled for now, has dropped a haunting teaser that immediately draws you into a world of creeping loss, slipping memories, and the quiet terror of watching one’s identity dissolve. The mood is anything but conventional television melodrama; instead, it’s a slow burn of unease and mystery, where every silence feels heavy and every lingering glance hints at a life about to change forever.
Teaser Breakdown: What We See
The teaser opens on an almost ordinary domestic scene. Zahid’s character shares small, intimate moments with his wife, played by Zara Noor Abbas, filled with affectionate smiles and playful banter – the kind of everyday warmth that speaks of a life built over years. Yet subtle fissures appear: he repeats a sentence he’s just said, and his eyes, for a fleeting second, search for something – or someone – he should know. These quiet slips, paired with a soft, uneasy score, make the tension palpable, hinting that something is profoundly wrong. The story’s focus on identity is equally compelling, showing flashes of the man he used to be – strong, confident, grounded – contrasted with moments of confusion and disorientation. This duality suggests the drama will explore not only the outward symptoms of dementia but also the inner turmoil of a mind gradually losing its grip on reality, allowing viewers to experience the heartbreak of a person becoming a stranger to himself.
As the camera lingers on Zara’s character, her transformation is equally striking. At first, she seems simply concerned, offering patient smiles and gentle questions. But gradually, her expression hardens into worry, then dread. It’s the slow realization that what looks like forgetfulness might be something far more sinister. The teaser avoids dramatic confrontations or big reveals. Instead, it gives us fragments – lost words, hesitant gestures, blank stares – mirroring the very nature of dementia, where pieces of life slip away bit by bit, never all at once. It’s this restraint that gives the teaser its power, pulling viewers into a quiet storm of uncertainty. The teaser suggests that the narrative will explore not just the patient’s struggle, but also the emotional toll on loved ones: the duty to care, the guilt of exhaustion, and the grief of losing someone while they’re still alive. It’s a perspective rarely explored with such nuance on television, and one that promises to resonate deeply with viewers.
What Is Dementia
Dementia is not a single disease but a term used to describe a range of symptoms associated with a decline in memory, thinking, and reasoning skills severe enough to interfere with daily life. It primarily affects older adults, though early-onset cases can occur in people in their 40s or 50s. The condition gradually erodes a person’s ability to remember recent events, communicate effectively, make decisions, and perform everyday tasks. Beyond cognitive decline, dementia often impacts behavior and emotions, leading to confusion, mood swings, and withdrawal from social interactions.
While Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause, dementia can result from a variety of conditions, including vascular issues, trauma, or other neurodegenerative disorders. Importantly, dementia affects not only the individuals diagnosed but also their families and caregivers, who often face emotional, physical, and financial challenges. Awareness and early diagnosis are crucial, as they allow for timely medical support, planning, and interventions that can improve quality of life and provide emotional support for both patients and their loved ones.
Why Did Zahid Ahmed Choose This Script?
We reached out to Zahid Ahmed and asked him why he said yes to this character, to which he replied…
Without trying to sound too philosophical or just literally trying to make it sound a certain way, I’ll quote Rumi when he says, ‘What you seek is seeking you.’ So from the onset of my career, from the get-go, I was looking to do challenging roles, right? Playing the hero in the first play, and then a complete psychopath in the second play, and Alvida with Sanam Jung, which also got me the Best Actor for Negative Role.

From there, I kind of, you know, threw it into the universe: I am looking for challenges. I want to do challenging roles, and not just be the hero. Somehow, I’m looking for these challenges, and they tend to find me as well. Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, that is something that I’m so thankful for. I think it’s a blessing that whatever I am looking for is also coming my way. And whether directors or producers consider me as soon as they write something challenging, or somehow the universe conspires, I end up getting these roles.”
This isn’t Zahid Ahmed’s first exploration of mental health on screen. He first took on such a challenging role in Alvida, where he portrayed a man grappling with inner turmoil and emotional vulnerability, earning praise for his nuanced performance. He later appeared in Ishq Zahe Naseeb, playing a man with dissociative identity disorder, a role that demanded both sensitivity and authenticity in depicting a condition often sensationalized in dramas. His consistent willingness to embrace psychologically complex characters makes him an ideal fit for portraying a man battling dementia, a condition that is both emotionally devastating and deeply human.
Beyond the personal story, the drama carries a subtle but urgent social message. Dementia is often misunderstood, particularly when it affects younger adults, as dementia sometimes does. By focusing on the slow erosion of memory and identity, the series has the potential to spark conversations about mental health, caregiving, and the emotional isolation faced by families dealing with such conditions.
According to social media whispers, the drama is titled Dil Dhoondta Hai Phir Wohi; however, the channel has not officially confirmed it, and the release date is yet to be announced.
