There’s something for everyone and that’s the magic of the current dramas season; from the hopelessly sensational to the magically moving, Pakistani dramas have audiences invested in riveting storytelling, we kid you not. This is your place to catch up on the week so let’s get rolling with The Week In Dramas starring Zard Patton Ka Bunn, Gentleman, Jaan Nisar, Jaan Se Pyara Juni, Noor Jahan, Jafaa, BRKRJ, and Radd!
Whew! That’s quite a list there, so let’s dive right into it with none other than Zard Patton Ka Bunn!
1. Zard Patton Ka Bunn: Unstoppable Meenu!
Oh Meenu, if only you knew what a star you are. With your “jugaad” brain and ability to have fun despite the challenges you face everyday, you are a breath of fresh air amongst Pakistani drama heroines. From crafting a ladder for Dr. Nofil, leaving him up a tree to find his way down, and singing with Roshan, Meenu you are a poem, a story, a writer’s muse with a life perspective that shouts “I Am Unstoppable” and now, we believe it too!
Afzal Khan compounder is another fun surprise. He’s sneaky at his game, yet good at heart, wants to hold on to his throne, yet gift Meenu a helmet to save her “jugaad dimaagh” from injury. We’re loving the underhand tactics here because ZPKB is adding humour, poignancy and intrigue to the story, all at the same time!
Muqaddas’ love language aka thappar was a well deserved hit at Roshan, though we admonish the notorious thappar in every possible setting, the reaction from Roshan was positively hilarious! He seemed to need the reminder that he turn into a red flag, blaming Muqaddas for his own lack of courage to stand up for his girl.
And with that thought, we move on to Gentleman!
2. Gentleman: Zarnab Is In It To Win It!
Zarnab is giving strong girl goals to young women who often submit to matters of the heart and give in, become weak in the face of their principles – not Zarnab though. She’s very clear that Faaris needs to provide a money trail and Mr. Faaris has apparently done just that. Is he being too clever for her, will he get her into trouble eventually, is he really, genuinely in love or, as Mifra says, it’s a matter of ego for him now, to be let off by young, determined Zarnab?
Munna has spilled the beans on his lady love and now there are no secrets between Rehmati and him, what happens next is anybody’s guess! Will he end up saving Zarnab, eventually? Some sharp editing there with two parallel conversations playing into each other. Gentleman is warming up to a story, the drama is about to begin!
3. Radd: Salaar and Emaan’s Love Story Is About To Begin, Or Has It Already?
Salaar has now upped the game by asking Emaan to engage with him emotionally. She seems to be opening up, taking their (love) story to another level. The real test will, of course, be the return of Mr. Zain. But we think she can handle that in her own time. Is the 19% stock sale a move from Salaar himself? That should be fun to watch.
Zaamin has turned dark and perhaps, the main villain is after all, not Kamran or his mom, but Salaar’s dad himself. Savera sending out great messages though Jamil will not back off so fast. Radd is poised at a crossroads and we wait to see where it takes us next!
4. Burns Road Kay Romeo Juliet: Farewell To Great Storytelling
We just want that Biryani recipe guys, throw in the qorma, sheermal too and add in the kheer and malpuras for a bonus and we’re fans for life! Farhad and Freeya’s journey comes full circle and while we loved all the messages, from therapy to parenting, joint family living and more, BRKRJ stood out for the spotlight on how adult children can also tend to their parents mental wellbeing vis a vis Farhad with his mom.
The performances were another high, with Jojo aka Raza Samo and Shaheera Jalil as Kiran hitting the high notes, Iqra Aziz and Hamza Sohail are a find and a half in onscreen pairing and we won’t be surprised if they resurface again in a different story. Shout out to director Fajr Raza and writer Parisa Siddiqi and the makers for giving us such a winning story!
BRKRJ has upped the game in Pakistani drama stories and the world will never be the same again, do watch if you missed it!
5. Jafaa: Irresponsible Parenting?
Did Deebu’s parents drive her to elope?
Jafaa is mirroring irresponsible parenting where perfectly normal, loving parents turn into monsters at the first sign of trouble – Pakistani drama virus? Yes, maybe. Why would a dad who is so loving, not engage with his daughter, meet the boy she is interested in, and act wisely for everyone’s mental well-being? But no, our drama dad decides to get Andaleeb married of to the first rishta, that too, a guy who doesn’t want children, or can’t commit to much else other than his job? Dr. Numair we love you, but you were right in saying no to the girl, now stand up to your convictions (and your mom) please!
On the other hand, Hassan has just realized what it’s like being married to a doctor or in fact, any girl who is committed to her profession. What now Watson? Your seasonal tantrums, leaving the restaurant etc etc will get you traction the first time, but soon, Zara will catch up to your eccentricities and then we’ll have trouble in newly married heaven!
Btw, felt for both Moiz and Andaleeb who did a great job at showing their respective heartbreak.
6. Noor Jahan: You Are A Riveting Watch!
From Safina’s fall, to Hunaid feeling pangs of guilt, Sumbul’s desperate attempts to find peace in an eccentric household, to Murad promising his mom a grandson, and then Noor Bano’s total brainwashing by Noor Jahan, this story turns intriguing and entertaining by the day. Btw, thank you Safina, for not wearing makeup in the hospital. And yes this needed to be said, you know who you are!
The scene where Hunaid lays his head on his mother’s lap was interestingly executed, so was Safina and Sumbul holding onto each other as they shared each other’s unspoken trauma. Noor Jahan is really laying on the intrigue, the scene is set for Noor Bano to enter the household and boy is she going to turn things around (after the initial shock). The question is, will hero son Murad follow after her or stay true to his mom’s teachings?
Let the games begin!
7. Jaan Nisar: Everything’s Happening Here With Double Dose Sensation!
Zunaira is stopped short in her tracks and Kashmala is the villain whose plan went wrong again. Jaan Nisar is getting mind-blowing views because, well, a Pakistani drama viewer’s gotta watch what they want and Danish Taimoor x Hiba Bukhari on screen is a great combination!
While Jaan Nisar has messages within the story with human trafficking, parenting and domestic abuse (Fiza with her husband and mother in law), we wish the story was a bit slow on sensation so that we could pick up the messages. However, there are messages in Nosherwan’s treatment of Dua, where he trusts her completely, supports her and also, ahem, solves all her life problems. Wouldn’t we all want a Nosherwan in our lives? The entry of the ex will add to the dramatic story line, and since we’ve settled in, knowing this is our guilty pleasure or call it what you will, we’re okay as long as Sarfaraz gets his punishment, with Kashmala to follow.
So, bring it on Jaan Nisar, we’re watching for the multiple twists in the tale!
8. Jaan Se Pyara Juni Is On Slow Burn
Oh dear Husn Ara, you’re about to get the shocker of your life, and will come tumbling down to earth. The question is, why did Faris’ mom dress up when she had no plans to go to the wedding?
Mina & Junaid need to turn on the romance mode, but Juni’s test has just begun. Will Husn Ara be his first and last love or, Mina his lasting love?
Why didn’t Juni tell Mina she was looking nice as he clearly thought she did? Once bitten, twice shy? These two need lessons in couple communication.
