Radain Shah, an acclaimed writer of several successful dramas, whose major hit Meri Zindagi Hai Tu is currently on air, joined us for an in-depth conversation about the drama and more.

This article is an excerpt from the YouTube interview.
How Did Radain Shah Craft Kamyar Of Meri Zindagi Hai Tu?
Radain Shah explains that not every drama he writes is meant to carry a social message. For him, storytelling is primarily about entertainment and portraying human reality rather than delivering moral lessons. With Kamyar, his intention was not to create an idealized hero but a deeply human character – someone flawed, emotional, and real.
He believes people are not angels; everyone makes mistakes. Kamyar reflects that truth. The character is not perfect, just like real people who have weaknesses and shortcomings. According to Radain, society often hides personal flaws and only presents good qualities in public, while being quick to criticize others for their faults. Kamyar, however, is written as someone who does not pretend to be flawless. He owns who he is, including his imperfections.
Radain also connects Kamyar’s personality to his upbringing, suggesting that certain flaws stem from poor parenting and life experiences. Still, he emphasizes that a person’s journey is never fixed. Just as moods and behaviors change, a person can improve or deteriorate over time. Human beings are not the same at every moment, and neither is Kamyar.
The Viral Confession Scene
Radain Shah shared that the confession scene – where Kamyar is playing and Ayra walks in – was originally written in the script, including the setting and overall situation. However, the emotional tone and dialogues went through important changes shortly before the shoot.
He received a call from director Musaddiq Malek, who discussed the feel of the moment in detail, especially from Kamyar’s emotional perspective. Based on that conversation, Radain rewrote the dialogues just two days before filming. The core of the scene remained, but the way Kamyar expressed himself shifted to better match the emotional intensity Musaddiq envisioned.
Radain gives major credit to Musaddiq, calling him the “captain of the ship.” He believes the director’s understanding of the scene’s emotional depth played a key role in shaping its final form. The actors’ performances also added greatly to the impact, as everyone’s effort came together to elevate the moment.
How Meri Zindagi Hai Tu Was Written
Radain Shah shared that the idea for Meri Zindagi Hai Tu was not his alone. The concept was developed collaboratively, and he gives significant credit to Nadeem Baig. Throughout the writing process, Nadeem Baig read every episode first and responded emotionally to the material – laughing, crying, and appreciating different moments. That consistent encouragement gave Radain the confidence to explore layered aspects of Kamyar’s character, even in areas where the character might raise questions. With that support, the team continued developing the story together, eventually writing 26 episodes.
Interestingly, Radain did not find Kamyar or the overall drama difficult to write. He describes the process as enjoyable and natural. When imagining Kamyar, he drew inspiration from people and situations he observes around him, especially from the generation that grew up in the 2000s. He prefers writing characters who speak the language he speaks and deal with everyday issues faced by ordinary young men and women. The family backgrounds in the story were shaped to suit the situations rather than to represent a specific social category.
