It’s been just over 24 hours and Zara is under fire all over our social media and the hashtag ‘Boycott Zara’ is trending. But what happened? And what do the Twitterati have to say? Time to dig in!
The high-end fashion brand Zara is all over our feeds, but this time around not for their products or off the charts sales. This time it is because of hate speech, racism and Islamaphobia.
Their Head Designer, Vanessa Ivy Perilman, attacked Palestinian model Qaher, when she talked about the Palestinian cause and defended the Israeli force’s stance and said that no matter what, she’d always support them. She continued saying that ‘if your people were educated then they wouldn’t blow up hospitals that Israel helped to pay for in Gaza’.
Causing a stir
These anti-Palestinian and Islamophobic stances were, for obvious reasons, not well received by MILLIONS worldwide and now they either demand a statement from Zara Headquarters or they vow to boycott ZARA items and stores. Will Zara replace the Head Designer or is it willing to take up the loss that would follow the boycott? For now it’s all uncertain.
