A thoroughly enjoyable 37 minutes of Zard Patton Ka Bunn where we smiled with Meenu, felt for Dr. Nofil’s love story dilemma, feared for Nasreen and Afzal Chacha, and cheered for Roshan, but only slightly (since he still needs to earn his love on his own merit and not because someone else wasn’t good enough).
The Dos & Don’t of Falling In Love
Zard Patton Ka Bunn surprised us by initiating a conversation on the dos and don’ts of love – Should one even write love letters in love, should one risk being found out, should one be expressive about one’s feelings or… like Meenu, write out a medical trivia in a supposed love letter, throwing everyone off the trail! The story surprises us as Meenu’s brothers are once again thwarted in their effort to slander her reputation. It was also interesting how the conversations on a young girl falling in love have taken over part of the narrative with Mairajuddin, in the previous episode, giving his opinion on how sisters need to be protected and also, that Meenu is old enough to know what she wants in life. And following the mindset, Meenu’s bhabi opined that all Meenu had done was write a letter, what’s the harm in that?
Smart Storytelling
Of course, the final reveal was both amusing and an anticlimax as the local village teacher read out a quiz on medical questions, but the entire fiasco made one ask, was it really that wrong for Meenu to send a letter to Dr. Nofil? Much as we like to hope and debate that she hasn’t done any wrong, one piece of emotional writing, revealing Meenu’s unspoken feelings, delivered in the wrong hands could cause a catastrophe in her life. Which brings us to ask, were the contents of Meenu’s letter a lesson to young girls to always be careful with what they write? Or merely another writer’s ploy to make her suspicious brothers feel foolish yet again. And of course, save our beloved, smart, yet emotional heroine, Meenu!
Reality Bites
Malik Nadir is on a mission. And he will stop at nothing to prevent Nasreen from backing off in the case against her daughter Rani’s murder. The plot line shows how the influential will stop at nothing to keep their sense of entitlement, transgress the law and blackmail those who attempt to fight for justice.
Roshan Needs A Push & A Shove!
Roshan managed a win by revealing the truth about Muqaddas’ fiancé, but we need him to earn his rightful place by Muqaddas, not because her fiancé was the wrong man, but because he’s the right man to win her. But Roshan, you need to pull up your socks and be worthy of your lady love on your own merit. For now, your story is taking a dip and needs a shove in the right direction – but are you up to the task? Hopefully yes. Roshan had us invested from the first, but he’s losing ground as his character slips into limbo, and we’d like him to prove himself on his own merit.
The Winning Conversation
The winning conversation of the episode was yet again, between Dr. Nofil and his father. Where his father tells him that: Main Kehta Hoon Ke Jo Rotay Nahin, Wo Mard Hotay Nahi…. Pathar Hotay Hain. Aur Beta Patharon Ko Ishq Aur Muhabbat Ka Dawaa Karnay Ka Koi Haq Nahi! A rare yet sensitive mindset that could only come from the pen of Mustafa Afridi; to spread the message that real men can cry.
Dr. Nofil’s father also tried to understand, albeit subtly, if his son was after all, in love with Meenu or caught in a temporary infatuation, perhaps similar to Malaika? His manner in discerning the truth was so subtle as he didn’t want Nofil to know that Malaika had visited him, knowing he’s already going through a barrage of emotions with Meenu. The father-son bond in Zard Patton Ka Bunn is absolutely precious and every conversation between these two sends out messages that are rare and yet entirely in sync with our deeper sensitivities.
