Zard Patton Ka Bunn Navigates Village Life In Smile Moments, Yet Not letting Go Of The Messages

The episode was poetry in motion. From manipulating a doctor’s arrival in town to land political gains, to scaling a tree for better wifi signals, Meenu imploring Dr. Nofil to stay and Roshan reunited with his family, Zard Patton ka Bunn dropped an emotionally satisfyingly episode and all we can say is, wow! If we thought the story telling couldn’t get better, it just did and here’s why the drama is adding miles to the Pakistani drama landscape this season.
Meenu Takes On The Case For A Doctor
When Meenu picks up the stick and Dr. Nofil shrinks back in confusion, we didn’t know either whether she was planning to punish him for his decision to leave or draw a line in the ground to illustrate her point. But what followed after was a discourse that brought instant tears to our eyes. Meenu explaining why her village needs a doctor, the stark reality of its inhabitants and the fact that dying at the hospital might mean never being able to be buried in the village, because who has the resources to even bring back a dead body, triggered an uncomfortable shift in viewers. The utter poverty and helplessness in many rural areas of our country, the rapid population growth and lack of basic amenities is a reality we dismiss daily.
The fact that a village of countless inhabitants has no hospital and an ill equipped dispensary shed light on the miseries of the common man and woman, That coupled with multiple births and how women often lose their lives giving birth, is a theme running throughout the story, not for an instance is the drama going to let us forget why Zard Patton Ka Bunn was penned in the first place.
The sweetest moment of the episode? When Meenu kept looking over her shoulder to see if Dr. Nofil had turned back or not. The slight smile she wore after, said it all. If you didn’t tear up then, are you even a fan of ZPKB?
It’s not Sajal Aly or Hamza Sohail’s super talented performances, which are a given, but the message they carry, which should weigh heavy on the shoulders of every Pakistani drama viewer.
Roshan Returns Home
Roshan returning home was such a heartening message. Despite the fact that his family were not entirely correct in looking down on the profession he wanted to undertake, that of a meerasi, Roshan, thankfully, did not choose the path of Mairaj who has, unfortunately, fallen prey to drugs. He mirrored many like him whose family has no clue what he is really doing, and when they get news, it will be a tragedy and shock for all. We hope Roshan is able to continue his music, despite returning home, and through some miracle, gets to be with Muqaddas too.
Meenu climbing up the tree in a matter of seconds to show Dr. Nofil how it’s done was absolute gold! Dr. Nofil’s amazed expressions and Meenu’s matter of fact responses were the cherry on top. The scene also reflected on the vast differences in village and city living and how Dr. Nofil’s journey has just begun… one which requires a great deal of challenges and learning.
Afzal Compounder’s Attempts To Get Rid Of Dr. Nofil
Afzal compounder’s attempts at driving Dr, Nofil from the village were both amusing and sad. The character is so true to life and painted in lively grey colours, that we did not judge him for discouraging Nofil, we knew his insecurity guided him, yet, we wanted Dr. Nofil to stay, despite everything. We hope Afzal too, will have his journey!
The maulvi sahab’s recurrent announcements are a lesson to city dwellers how news travels in small villages and the school master, writing the speech for Malik sahab, the village people devising ways to up the game for Malik was engaging storytelling. Zard Patton Ka Bunn is showing us how simple stories can be magical, one doesn’t need special effects and sharp edits to add the punch in a storyline.
Fabulous Village Backdrops
However, speaking of smart edits reminds us of the fabulous village backdrops that didn’t escape us for a second. Dr. Nofil walking back on the village path, a dusty, beaten track surrounded by green was a view to behold, giving us a peek into the rustic, raw canvas – the natural beauty of our villages.
One must give a shout out to casting here. From Sajal Aly and Hamza Sohail who are looking great onscreen together, to Mubashir Mehmood and Sajal Aly’s endearing relationship as Roshan and Meenu. Meenu beating up Roshan, on his return, who quickly fishes out a watch for her from his city earnings was a delightful and moving scene, filled with tears and laughter!
We hope Roshan gets his Muqaddas and vice versa. The beauty about Zard Patton Ka Bunn, is that every episode makes us feel the story has just begun! So engaging is the scripting, execution and performance of cast members that we really need to say it – THIS is a drama that has our heart, all of it!
