Plums belong to the same family as peaches and apricots. You could say they’re cousins, no? But why are they important and why should we get the most out of them during the summers? We’re here to tell you & with a super delish plum recipe too!
Plums are the official seasonal fruits during the summers and are available in abundance, especially here in Pakistan. Having them during the morning or evening, out in the garden – nothing like it. No doubt the juiciest, refreshing feeling in the sweltering summer heat. But what else? Why are plums important and should be a part of our diet? Here are 5 reasons:

(Oh and don’t forget to catch the surprise plum recipe at the end too! Yummy!)
1. Rich in antioxidants
Plums are rich in antioxidants and have great anti-inflammatory properties. They prevent free radicals in the body – compounds found in the body that can be harmful if they’re too much. They can also help heal and protect the body’s cells from any kind of damage. Isn’t that amazing?
2. Strengthen immunity
Vitamin C is found in high amounts in plums which give an instant boost to your immune system. It prevents infections and builds resistance to fight off any foreign germ or bacteria. Secondly, plums are also rich in potassium which helps minimize chances of heart attacks, high blood pressure and any other kind of heart-related diseases.
3. Rich in Fiber
Yes, that’s right! Plums are full of fiber, an essential supplement in our diet but at times we may forget and compromise on it. Plums, however, can make up for it and help keep our digestive system right on track. Secondly, the fiber helps reduce blood sugar levels, especially after a post-carb meal.

4. Helps in weight loss
A medium-sized plum is said to have around 30 calories. You heard that right! Not only does it make a delicious snack but also helps in weight loss. So, instead of opting for heavy desserts such as ice cream or cakes, go for a plum or two. Sounds good?
5. Keep cancer at bay!
According to scientific research, plum’s properties help in the treatment of cancer, as they fight deadly cells, just like dried apricots! They keep the healthy cells intact and safe from any harm. How cool is that?
Fun fact: Plums are also known as drupes as they have a seed right at the center.
