Zard Patton Ka Bunn: Whether it’s Meenu donning a helmet or climbing up a tree, crafting a ladder or racing away from Afzal Khan compounder, she has claimed our hearts forever we believe, and here’s why!
Last week we wrote that Zard Patton Ka Bunn outdoes itself every week. The episodes are so refreshing to watch that the drama so far, has but itself as its own best competition. But resting easy on its wins is not what the creators believe in. They seem to be pushing forward with full force, marking a win, not one but many, in every successive episode.
Here’s why this week’s episode deserves a lookback yet again:
1. Meenu racing away from Afzal Khan
What was that? A hilarious escapade with an even more hilarious turnaround as Meenu, guilty of jeopardizing Afzal’s kingdom, animal doctor and all, first turns around to bike the other way, outrunning Afzal, then turns around just as quickly to ask what he wants. Meenu is really full of surprises! But the helmet held a charm and message of its own. From riding a bike to college and doing it with a helmet, Meenu gave out strong girl and road safety goals in a narrative that’s really cooking on slow burn!
2. Meenu climbing up the tree to show Dr. Nofil how it’s done
She climbs up with “Tarzan girl’ alacrity, then shows Dr. Nofil how to do it without the city boy “Nazakat”. Meenu owns a “Jugaad brain” in her own words. But the amusing bit was how she left Dr. Nofil to find his way down the tree after. Girl goals are just so ‘wow’ here, we wonder if anything ever misses our heroine!
3. Meenu crafting a ladder for Dr. Nofil
The ladder was another “jugaad brain-worthy” idea of Meenu’s that scored full marks – just what a city lad needs when attempting to crash course country living. Her instructions in pulling it up to save it from the village kids was Meenu crossing her T’s and dotting her I’s, there’s no way this girl leaves anything to chance. When God has given you a brain, be smart, be like Meenu!
4. The local animal doctor and PCO
Afzal compounder is not about to give up without a good fight and the humor in the story is just what we need to keep us smiling. His ‘jugaads’ are often no less clever than Meenu’s, and he is fighting to keep his throne. Afzal attempting to frustrate Dr. Nofil with a long line of animal patients and then, using his landline as a local PCO (one way, mind you), was a clever trick to confuse Dr. Nofil and make him wonder if he is even needed in this village where not a single patient has visited since his arrival!
Afzal, essayed convincingly and with great skill by Ali Tahir is pure entertainment to watch. He’s that endearing character who’s manifesting his insecurity and anger in a way that makes us smile even as he prevents our hero from doing his job; sensitively penned and equally well-executed. Afzal is a surprise in Zard Patton Ka Bunn. One we are rooting for, despite all his underhanded tactics!
5. Roshan’s thappar – the love language we never knew!
Roshan receiving that thappar from Muqaddas and translating it into her love language really made him gaze at stars in broad daylight and while gifting us a priceless laugh moment too. But the moment was not without its messages. Please take note girls: Just as Roshan was about to turn on a red flag by blaming Muqaddas for not opposing her engagement, the resounding slap on his cheek was a reminder to let men, and women, know that it was after all, Roshan, who failed to take a stand! Meenu had already scolded him earlier on the same, but an action-filled reminder here showed us that an audio-visual representation of the message not only drives it home, adds humor to the situation, but also delivers it with double impact, not just on Roshan, but viewers too – how dare young men call out their beloved in future for not taking a stand where they themselves should have acted faster.
Emotional blackmail is a thing in relationships, often a red flag too, and Muqaddas deserves full marks for demonstrating a response that turned heads, served as a reminder and a call to action for many men like Roshan (and young girls like Muqaddas).
To follow the narrative, Zard Patton Ka Bunn has ensured that its women narratives stay strong in more than one character. While Meenu is a reflection of a strong, determined spirit, her bhabi and Muqaddas throw us equally spirited goals – well done there!
