Wanting a great summer drama to watch so you can relax and unwind? Then, you have come to the right place! Pakistani dramas have certainly upped their game with the upcoming dramas on the block. With an ensemble cast, great direction and unconventionally penned stories, these dramas will hopefully be a good summer watch! Here are 5 dramas to look forward to:

1. Laapata
What happens when you put three Khans together in one frame? Well, we surely know that fireworks are about to fly! The upcoming Momina Duraid Production, ‘Laapata’ is the new upcoming drama on the block which has captured drama audience’s interest and frankly, why not? It has an ensemble cast of our lead actors in Pakistan including Sara Khan, Ayeza Khan, Ali Rehman Khan, and Mirza Gohar Rasheed (who is still missing from the teasers but we are expecting a grand entrance from him). In addition, the teasers have done their job well in building up the hype. And if there was any more room left, then Ayeza Khan amped it up launching a TikTok account by the name of “Geeti Princess” and oh she has already gathered a massive following! Want to know more? Then head on over to TikTok if you dare and find out what the buzz is about!

It seems to be offering us a unique story line – women in sports and TikTok. Are Pakistani dramas finally catching up to the mainstream youth content? Oh well, better late than never! Let’s throw that saas-bahu kahaani out the window and bring in a new theme!

Talking a little bit more about each of their characters we can see that Sara Khan is a woman who is not afraid to play with fire! In one trailer we can see her playfully teasing Ali Rehman’s character, while she is seen playing tennis in another. Her character has many shades and some of them are assuredly negative? Let’s see how Sara plays it! On the other hand, Ali Rehman’s character is seen to be head-over-heels in love with Sara’s character (and spoiler alert: what we can see from the trailers is a heartbreak waiting for him). He might also be a gambler, but we’ll have to wait to find out the backstory to that plot twist.

Now, let’s talk about the ever popular Ayeza Khan, we are anticipating her upcoming character similar to the one she played in ‘Chupke Chupke’ – a bubbly girl who seeks an escape from her studies and wants to get married with an added twist of being a TikToker. Her track most certainly looks promising. We also saw Asma Abbas playing the role of Ayeza’s mother which means that fans will once again be treated with the ‘Chupke-Chupke’ duo! Talking about Gohar Rasheed, we didn’t catch a glimpse of him in the trailer but we are looking forward to what the talented actor has to offer!

2. Pari Zaad

‘Pari Zaad’ is another upcoming HUM TV drama that we are impatiently waiting for. The story is adapted from Hashim Nadeem’s novel ‘Pari Zaad’ who has given us some exceptional serials including ‘Ishq Zahe Naseeb’ and ‘Raqs-e-Bismil’, and of course, ‘Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3‘ which is currently on air. The drama will be directed by ‘Humsafar‘ and ‘Sabaat’ director Shahzad Kashmiri.
The drama has a star cast that includes Saboor Aly, Ushna Shah, Urwa Hocane, Yumna Zaidi, Noman Ijaz, Mashaal Khan and Ahmed Ali Akbar. It’s hard to predict the plot based on the promos but we’re guessing it will be the story of these individuals battling with their own struggles and hardships. We’re assuming that it will most probably turn into a love triangle, but only time will tell!

We will hopefully get to see all the actors in a new avatar. Ahmed Ali Akbar is pulling it off as a shy guy who loves poetry. While Ushna Shah, who seemingly looks like his love interest, is injecting a playfulness and spark to the screen. While Saboor Aly’s character is that of a blunt, no-frills girl who is not afraid to challenge the traditions and customs in society. She has no interest in marriage and wants to set a new path for herself. All her sequences looked promising, especially the one in which she is boxing! Rendering from the teasers, Urwa Hocane will probably be the daughter of Noman Ijaz (with a complicated relationship). And then lastly, there is the versatile Yumna Zaidi who is hidden in a cocoon and as of yet we do not know anything about her character. But we are waiting for that cocoon to turn into a butterfly and see Yumna in a new role.
And yess…another surprise element that awaits us is to see Yumna Zaidi and Ahmed Ali Akbar back on screen together! AhNa is back and this will be there third project together. We cannot wait to see their undeniable chemistry on screen!
The frames emit earthy tones, a sober kind of ambience and promises an intense watch! The first episode will be aired this Tuesday on the 20th. Don’t forget to tune in for this one!

3. Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay
‘Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay’, the upcoming new drama serial from HUM TV Productions ignited loads of interest and anticipation even before its teasers were released, all credit due to the stars of the show. Mahira Khan will be making a comeback after her absence (which was deeply felt) from TV and will be joined by the graceful Kubra Khan and charismatic Usman Mukhtar. Furthermore, this will be an adaptation of Umera Ahmed’s collection of three stories, ‘Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay’, ‘Band Kiwaron Ke Aagey’ and ‘Halal-e-Jurrat’. Directed by Farooq Rind who has also directed ‘Ishq Zahe Naseeb‘ and ‘Pyar Ke Sadqay‘, the story is believed to unfold a deeply tragic tale of trust, love and repentance.

The story will center around the stories of three protagonists: Mehreen (Mahira Khan), Mishal (Kubra Khan) and Aswad (Usman Mukhtar) who were seen in the teasers. The absence of other cast members from the trailers was noticeable and we hope to catch them soon in future teaser drops – Zainab Qayoom, Haroon Shahid, Shamim Hilali, Zainab Qayyum, Huma Nawab, Laila Wasti, Omair Rana and several others will also appear in the project.
The character of Mehreen has a physical appearance of a seemingly simple girl who wears spectacles and wears carelessly tied hair. But her expressive body language contrasts starkly with her understated physical traits On one hand, she appears confused and scared while on the other, she seems to be totally self-assured, while Mishal who is her cousin is depicted to be self assured and assertive and is used to having things her way. In one shot we catch her scorching a shirt with a cigarette while in another, she seems lost in a world of tearful misery. Kubra Khan takes on Mishal’s journey with a restless passion! Last but not the least, the effortlessly charming hero, Aswad played by Usman Mukhtar also seems to be a grey character. Allegedly it looks like he will be caught in the feud between Mehreen and Mishal. But will he be hoodwinked, or mistaken, will he judge wrongly or will he be the central reason for the feud in the first place? Our guess is as good as yours!

We hope that the story will not submit to the cliched sister-rivalry sequence that has been played out too often on screen, and even if that is the case, it is supported by a convincing narrative. Of course, expectations are high with a classic Umera Ahmed script & sharp direction from Farooq Rind Moreover, the teasers reveal crisp, well-edited scenes, bright color palettes, slick cinematography and above par direction.

‘Dobara’ is the new upcoming project under Momina Duraid’s production which will air on HUM Network. We will also be seeing the veteran actor, Sakina Samo along with ‘Suno Chanda’ actor Nabil Qureshi and Osama Khan whom we saw in ‘Mohlat and Sitam’.
“It’s a pleasure to be working with such a phenomenal team. I believe this drama is going to create a lot of noise and, viewers are going to enjoy it a lot. Danish Nawaz is a genius director and I hope we can bring his and Miss Sarwat’s message across to the viewers successfully.”

The drama is directed by Danish Nawaz who has given us many hits including ‘Chupke Chupke‘, ‘Kashf‘, and ‘Ishq Tamasha’. It is penned by Sarwat Nazeer. Nevertheless, we are thrilled for this drama and are looking forward to its date of released being announced.
5. Ishq e laa

Another upcoming HUM TV production that has exhilarated our interest is the upcoming drama ‘Ishq e laa’ which will be starring the two biggest stars of Pakistani drama industry, Yumna Zaidi and Sajal Aly together on screen. Yumna Zaidi is winning us all over now by her performance in ‘Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi‘ while we will be seeing Sajal Aly after a break since she gave us the mega hit, ‘Alif’. Azan Sami Khan will be paired with both of them who will be making his acting debut with this drama. The other cast members include Sohail Sameer, Uzma Hassan, Usman Pirzada and Simi Raheel.

‘Ishq e laa’ will be directed by Amin Iqbal and penned by Qaiser Hayat. The teasers are yet to be released which the fans are eagerly waiting to see.

The cast members are sharing BTS on social media to stir the interest of the audience. Have a look:
