The first two episodes of the new drama serial Shirin Farhad just dropped this weekend, and we are quite impressed already!

1. A refreshing, entertaining, and relatable story
The fact that Farhad wants to be an actor and faces extreme opposition from his family — who believe this field has no future and is not meant for “shareef” (respectable) people — is something many viewers will relate to, especially those who don’t get the support they need from their families.
2. Showcasing the history of Pakistani cinema
It has a nostalgic feel for those who grew up watching Pakistani films, and it serves as an informative tool for the present generation who may not know much about our older stars or the world of films at the time. Mentions of legends like Nadeem Sahib, Shabnam, and Waheed Murad — along with the sight of Evernew Studios took us on a walk down memory lane and captured a piece of history beautifully.
3. A refreshing storytelling approach
While it might seem like a love story, the drama dives deep into the power games and politics within the film industry. Shirin’s father, a tailor in the film industry, holds notable influence and is trying to get his daughter enter the world of movies as an actor. The friction and negative reactions towards newcomers are evident — when Shirin’s father takes her to learn dance, and the already well-established heroine is not happy about it. Similarly, the power held by directors and their biases is highlighted. All this gives us hope that we’re in for a powerful script and an engaging story ahead.
4. Fabulous performances by the entire cast
It’s impossible not to be touched by Farhad’s sincerity in following his passion. His junoon (obsession) for acting and his efforts to achieve his dream are beautifully portrayed by Farhan Saeed, who delivers an impressive, heart-winning performance. You genuinely root for him and feel a part of his journey in just the first two episodes.
Kinza Hashmi also delivers a great performance as Shirin — a young and beautiful girl trying to balance her mother’s concerns, her father’s ambitions, and her own dreams. Her passion and mild confusion are portrayed very naturally.
5. Throwback to a nostalgic era
The drama takes you back to the era of backcombed hair, flared pants, and short-fitted shirts. It’s fun, colorful, and refreshing to watch the world of Shirin Farhad unfold. The hairdos, costumes, sets, and other visual details add richly to the overall experience.
6. Fast-paced and engaging story
The first two episodes moved at a fast pace, developing each character’s arc while keeping conflicts alive. This pacing keeps you hooked and curious about what happens next — there’s no chance of getting bored.
7. Standout performances by senior actors
A shoutout to Rashid Farooqui, Ali Tahir, Irfan Motiwala, Kanwal Khan and Rana Majid Khan for their notable performances. It’s a great experience to watch these fine actors deliver robust performances, keeping the scenes impactful and the viewers invested.
