Romaisa Khan, who is currently gracing our screens as Hamna in Dar-e-Nijaat, someone we were initially a little frustrated with, but have gradually developed a soft corner for. She joined us at FUCHSIA for a GupShup, where we spoke about the drama, her working experience with the cast, and much more!

This article is an excerpt form FUCHSIA Magazine’s YouTube interview.
How Romaisa Khan Came On Board For Dar-e-Nijaat
For Romaisa, one of the biggest attractions of playing Hamna was that the character had an interesting place in the story despite having relatively limited screen time. She revealed that she was approached by someone from the production team, who told her that Shehryar wanted to meet her. Although Romaisa usually prefers reading a script before agreeing to a meeting, she decided to hear the team out. During their conversation, Shehryar offered to narrate the entire story, and she was keen to know everything rather than just her own character’s journey. When she found out that Hamna would require around 15–20 days of work, she wasn’t particularly concerned about the screen presence. What mattered to her was that the character should leave an impact and contribute to the story in some way.
What really caught Romaisa’s attention was the mystery surrounding Hamna. The character appears, disappears and eventually returns, with several things happening in her life along the way. Romaisa also found the role quite different from the lighthearted comedy she had previously explored and wanted to challenge herself with something more intense. She shared that she initially had her own interpretation of Hamna, imagining her as a girl from a village who would speak with a particular accent. However, reading the script helped her understand the character better. She also spoke warmly about working with director Saqib Khan, appreciating how he gave actors the freedom to interpret their scenes while also explaining the emotions behind them. Even when Hamna had no dialogues, he would help Romaisa understand what the character was feeling, something she found particularly valuable as an actor.
Romaisa Khan On Working With The Cast Of Dar-e-Nijaat
For Romaisa, working with the cast of Dar-e-Nijaat was an experience she thoroughly enjoyed, although much of her work involved solo scenes. She shared that she had a few days of shooting with Nameer and Shehryar, while Nameer, who plays her husband, had more scenes with her. What stood out to her was the seriousness and dedication everyone brought to the set. With such a large and experienced cast, she found herself wanting to put in extra effort and make the most of the opportunity. She also mentioned how focused her co-stars were on their scripts, constantly looking for ways to improve their performances. Having been in the industry for around five years, with breaks in between, Romaisa admitted that being surrounded by so many established actors could feel a little intimidating at first.
However, it wasn’t long before she found herself enjoying the company of her co-stars. Romaisa particularly spoke about Sania Saeed, admitting that she was such a big fan that she kept trying to get into her good books and was even nervous about acting in front of her. She also had a lovely experience with Durefishan, who turned out to be much more approachable and helpful than she had expected. Romaisa described how she would step in and speak up whenever she noticed her feeling uncomfortable about something. Despite her initial nervousness, Romaisa came away with a lot of affection for the cast, describing everyone as genuinely sweet and welcoming.
Is Hamna Still In Love With Abu Bakar? Romaisa Khan Spills The Tea!
When asked whether Hamna is still in love with Abu Bakar, Romaisa was careful not to give away any spoilers but admitted that Hamna was certainly infatuated with him. She explained that Hamna’s feelings were genuine, but there is more to her story than simply being unable to move on. Romaisa also pointed out that Hamna is someone who has not received much emotional support from her family. Having left her home and found herself in a difficult situation, she may have been looking for comfort and protection elsewhere. This could also explain why she decided to marry Zamil, believing he would offer her the kind of security and stability she had hoped for. Romaisa suggested that perhaps Hamna was looking for qualities she had admired in Abu Bakar, rather than simply marrying someone to forget him.
Romaisa also came to Hamna’s defence when discussing the criticism the character has received from viewers. She believes people are being a little too harsh on Hamna for messaging Abu Bakar, especially when she has very few people to turn to. She also raised an interesting point about the double standards surrounding women expressing their feelings. According to her, audiences might find it romantic if a man went to great lengths for someone he loved, but when a woman does something similar, she is often judged much more harshly. Discussing Abu Bakar’s flaws, Romaisa said, “I feel like he is a people pleaser.” She believes that while kindness is important, one should not allow others to walk all over them. As for Hamna’s feelings and what happens next, Romaisa wants viewers to wait and watch because there is still plenty left to explore.
