A humanitarian operation is currently underway in the Arabian Sea after a merchant vessel travelling from Oman to India ran into technical trouble mid-route, prompting a coordinated response involving both Indian and Pakistani maritime authorities.

The vessel, identified as MV Gautam, reportedly developed a fault while at sea, leaving it in need of immediate assistance. While the nature of the malfunction has not been detailed so far, the situation was serious enough for India’s Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai to reach out to Pakistani authorities for support.
On board the vessel were seven crew members, including six Indian nationals and one Indonesian. There have been no confirmed reports of injuries, however, given the circumstances at sea, emergency intervention became necessary to ensure their safety.
Responding to the distress call, the Pakistan Navy moved quickly, deploying a ship of the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, PNS Kashmir, to the location. The operation, described by security sources as humanitarian in nature, is focused on stabilising the situation and supporting the stranded crew.
Naval personnel are currently providing essential assistance, including food supplies, medical aid, and technical support to address the vessel’s condition. The response reflects standard maritime practice, where assistance is extended regardless of nationality in situations involving distress at sea.
Officials have reiterated that the Pakistan Navy remains prepared to respond to emergencies across regional waters, and the operation is ongoing as further assessments are made.
