Fawad Khan alert! The superstar is set to thrill us once more with ‘Behind The Scenes’ and ‘The Prisoner,’ and we’re all here for it!

The inaugural Tasveer Film Market, held in Seattle, has proven to be a groundbreaking event for South Asian cinema. Among the many exciting announcements, Pakistani superstar Fawad Khan has secured leading roles in two highly anticipated projects. These ventures, “Behind the Scenes” and “The Prisoner,” mark Khan’s foray into the realms of dark comedy and crime thriller genres, respectively.
The Tasveer Film Market, the only Oscar-qualifying South Asian film festival in the world, aims to foster connections between filmmakers, producers, and industry leaders. The event, which kicked off on October 15, featured Pakistani film Wakhri and Indian film Loop Line. Rita Meher, the executive director of the market, expressed her excitement about the collaborations formed during the event. “This market has not only brought diverse creators together but has also created a table where filmmakers, producers, and industry leaders can exchange ideas, build relationships, and forge new paths for South Asian narratives on the global stage,” Meher said.
Dark Comedy Venture: “Behind the Scenes”
Fawad Khan will headline “Behind the Scenes,” a newsroom thriller and dark comedy set against the backdrop of the hustling and bustling newsroom. This project is being developed by Bilal Sami, Raza Namazi, and Suri Gopalan of Film Lab++, with Khan closely involved. Modoxy Media, led by Mohammed Ali Naqvi, will join as executive producer. Behind the camera, the project boasts renowned names like Mehreen Jabbar of Jackson Heights, Sarmad Khoosat of Kamli fame, and Naqvi of Insha’Allah Democracy, ensuring a strong mix of storytelling talent. The newsroom thriller promises to explore the undercurrents of the media industry, delving into themes of ambition, ethics, and corporate politics.
Crime Thriller Series: “The Prisoner”
Fawad Khan will also star in ‘The Prisoner,’ a crime thriller series for Awedacious Originals based on Omar Shahid’s bestselling novel. Set in the 1990s, this drama follows two daring cops on a covert mission to dismantle a powerful, mafia-like political organization in Karachi. Khan’s portrayal of one of the lawmen navigating the perilous streets of Karachi is expected to be a central draw of the series. Parisa Siddiqi and Ahmer Khan created the series, with Awedacious Originals spearheaded by Apoorva Bakshi and Monisha Thyagarajan.
Other Highlights from the Tasveer Film Market
The Tasveer Film Market also showcased several other notable projects and collaborations. Monga Kapoor, known for her work on the Oscar-winning The Elephant Whisperers, continues her involvement in international ventures with this film.
Lotus Visual Productions introduced “NISA,” written and directed by Ambarien Alqadar, which delves into the life of a 28-year-old Muslim woman grappling with personal challenges. Another highlight is “Lone Star Hijra,” directed by Sheila Sawhny, telling the story of an Indian American transgender woman’s search for sisterhood.
