On the one hand Aliya is the epitome of courage, self-pride, honesty and dignity – definitely the role model we need. But we also question, was Aliya indirectly warning phuppo that she will put up a fight for the house, or just making sure she earns enough money to pay off every one’s claim to the property she and her family want to keep? Did Aliya book an appointment with Sehrish, because she knew she could convince Azfar by being firm with him and matching his aggressive tactics with her?
Human Psychology At Play
One reason we love Kuch Ankahi is the human psychology at play we see in the actions of each character. Sometimes making us really think deep and hard about issues and their underlying causes.
How Agha Jaan has always felt proud of his daughters, never wishing he had a son instead, is laudable. But alas, even the most progressive mind can sometimes fall prey to beliefs and mindsets engraved within us. His concern for Aliya’s safety on the one hand makes us think this concern is logical and you would expect every parent to have for their children. But on the other hand, it also makes us question, till when will all efforts to empower women keep falling prey to this concern that arises by virtue of being a woman? If we keep harboring this fear, then how will things change?
Bold, Daring or Unrealistic?
The way Aliya handled Azfar with reference to the lawyer, seems courageous and bold. But it also makes one question: is that a realistic depiction of events, would any employee dare do that? Would it have been a better idea to show Aliya convince him with logic and reasoning rather than behave firmly and treat him like a child? Or, did she read him well and realize that Azfar will respect a firm voice more than one of mere pleading or request for sanity? Though we did like the way she presented the case to Azfar, she makes him realize that, losing a case doesn’t mean you have lost your premise. Compromise is the key to move forward in some situations:
“jeetne ke liye sirf court ka faisla nahi chahiye hota”
Aliya from Kuch Ankahi
“Na mein apne baba kay baghair reh sakti hoon, na apni gaari ke, isliye compromise karke aage ka sochti hoon”
Her confidence to do so at that moment and then subsequently scheduling the meeting with Sehrish was a very daring (and maybe, risky) move. She might have lost her job! Do you think she should have sat down and explained things to Azfar further before taking independent action without taking her boss in the loop?
Salman & Bringing Back Respect In A Relationship
Has Salman lost Aliya? She seems to pay no attention to his concern or shikwas? Or is this response setting a good example for all young girls to redeem their respect in a relationship by taking a step back when they’ve tried everything and still get the silent treatment – sometimes, respect has to be earned the hard way.
Heart Winning Feels
Agha Jaan feeding Aliya and their conversation was heart-warming and represented so many girls, just trying to be the support their fathers need. A heart-winning depiction of a daughter’s feelings for sure. Despite all odds, she refuses to give in.
Thanvi sir, you have our support. Lagay rahiyay, shayed phuppo maan jayen gee! Thanvi’s light-hearted romantic gestures make this story very interesting and engaging. What would you advise Thanvi to do in order to win Phuppo’s heart?
Shagufta fails to realise she will lose Saif for sure. It is so interesting to see this representation of emotional bullying in a man, which we tend to dismiss mostly. Respect and freedom taken away from any gender is sad. But can we blame Shagufta alone? Is Saif in this position just because he never had the courage to resist power?
Last but not the least, we appreciate Kuch Ankahi for showing us outdoor scenes during Taniya’s shoot, which added a refreshing change to the screen.
