Two reasons Ishq Murshid has won our hearts – Shahmeer and Fazal Baksh’s love story is subtle and understated yet, carries all the intensity mirrored by actions, not just dialogues and tears. There is constant dialogue between Shibra and her father; such a refreshing change from threats and ultimatums given from parents to children or vice versa.

A Mature Love Story, Thankfully!
While many love stories show the hero and heroine madly in love and crying their hearts out, or going to extreme measures to show their love and pain, very rarely do we get to see the right actions that are the need of the time, like Shahmeer standing up for Shibra in front of his father, like Shibra telling her father how he is punishing Shahmeer for his father’s mistakes and Shibra telling Dawood Sahib how she can reveal his truth to Shahmeer.
The way Shahmeer sides Shibra in front of his father, how he directly asks his father to take a proposal to Shibra’s house and then declares that he has come too far ahead in her love… these are all the actions, all the things that we want someone in love to do and say, the stand we all desire to see in love stories, for the sake of love. And IM gave us just that.
The Dialogues Did It!
“Mujhe yeh to nahi pata keh main zinda rahungi ya nahi. Lekin Shahmeer mar jaaye ga”.
Shibra
A simple yet impactful dialogue that shows the depth of the connection between the two. How Shibra realises what she means to him, given all that he did for her. It was not just changing his identity, it was also what he did for her family and taking care of them. His actions spoke louder than his words.
Although we loved that dialogue but we hope that Shahmeer is not the one who would die, he is more likely to carry out practical actions to achieve what he wants.
Suleiman Sahib: Ego Or Fear?
Suleiman Sahib is called out by his wife and Shibra both, for his prejudice against Shahmeer and choosing his own ego over his daughters’ happiness. Is the damage done in the past so deep, or should we say, egos are not easy to let go, or does he really fear for Shibra’s wellbeing, knowing the reality of Dawood and the party, that he is not giving into her insistence? Which one do you think is the real reason?
The constant dialogue between the father and daughter is such a great thing to see… Shibra fighting for her love in front of her father, not crossing a line, and genuinely trying to convince him. A great message for young people whose parents are not agreeing to their choices, to keep the dialogue going… to not act impulsively and do anything extreme.
Looks like Dawood will take the proposal, thinking Suleiman will refuse, … but Suleiman might say yes… as Shibra has asked him already: What if he really does bring the proposal? Or Shahmeer will choose to be with her and leave everything for her sake?
Happily Ever After?
But will Shibra and Shahmeer stay happy? Can their love really overcome the differences between their families and maybe, their own perspectives on life? Will Shahmeer always choose to do the right thing once he enters politics?
Fazal Baksh, What Are You Up To?
We do however, question that entire sequence of the real Fazal Baksh visiting Shahmeer’s house. When eagerly waiting to see what happens next in the love story, it is unfair to the audiences to have to watch such lengthy scenes about cooking omelet and the real Fazal Baksh realising who Shahmeer really is. What help did they need from him, we are curious to know?
