What a beautiful and intelligent script of Kuch Ankahi with characters that are layered and tickle your mind for answers that are not easy to come by. Azfar, Aliya, Samiya, Salman and Saif; all of them are hero material in their own way but none is perfect or our ideal character.
Azfar is still a mystery
Azfar – well we can’t tell exactly what is going on in his mind, but one can’t miss his toxic streak. It is refreshing to see Sheheryar Munawar play this role. He is definitely amused by Aliya, but is his attention really genuine, has he started developing feelings for her, or does he harbour a desire to just win her in order to satisfy his own ego?

We love Aliya’s character. What an empowering and inspiring character, guiding young girls on how to handle an uncomfortable work-related situation. Aliya does her job but never crosses a professional boundary or compromises her integrity.
Our unspoken biases
Sehrish’s father’s comment about girls not being strong to do field work, reflects the unspoken yet deeply ingrained biases we still nurture within us, regardless of which section of society we belong to.
Salman’s heartbroken!
Aliya jee, you didn’t go for lunch with Salman but you went with Azfar. Now poor Salman’s heart is broken. Salman’s character represents an interesting hero who is not perfect and sometimes behaves like an angry child. He is bitter, insecure and immensely jealous. But thank Goodness, he hasn’t turned negative or toxic. His reactions mirror those of many young men we see amidst us.
Saif, Shagufta and Samiya
Does Shagufta really love Saif-ur-Rehman? Or has it been a relationship of authority and submission, each seeking the other. Saif was clearly paralysed when Shagufta pays him a visit. He can’t utter a word in her company, that is how terrified he is of her.
Samiya on the other hand is like a shower of calmness and comfort, who respects him, empowers him and never looks down upon him or tries to control him. Can Shagufta keep controlling Saif against the infuence of Samiya’s silent strength.
The jhumka moment
What is the mystery of the jhumka between Shammo jee and Agha Jaan? Hats off to Sofia phuppo for being gutsy enough to face the situation heads on rather than feeling apologetic about it.
