LUX Style Awards (LSA) are caught up in controversy yet again. The nominations for the 21st LUX Style Awards were revealed yesterday along with all the award categories. It wasn’t long after one name in the nominations irked netizens, including Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. However, LSA has come up with a statement as a response to the backlash. Keep scrolling for more details.

It is Feroze Khan’s name that has sparked a controversy across social media due to his recent involvement in a domestic abuse case against his wife Aliza Sultan. His wife had shared pictures of her bruised arms and eye which led a lot of people as well as celebrities on social media to take a strong stance against the actor. For instance, actress Iqra Aziz pulled out of a project she was supposed to do with Feroze, as a sign to show her support for Aliza. To read more about the case, click here.
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy Disappointed With LUX
Feroze has been nominated in the Best TV Actor (Male) category for the much-acclaimed drama Khuda aur Mohabbat. Like most people, this nomination did not sit well with Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. She took to her Instagram stories to express her disappointment with LUX. She stated that LUX despite being a brand that sells soaps to women, has nominated a man who has been accused of being physically violent with his wife.
She also went on to state that she will be returning the Lifetime Achievement Award she received from LUX in 2012. ““In 2012, I was awarded a Lux lifetime achievement award, which I will be sending back to Unilever as the brand and I no longer share the same values. As a society, we must stand together against domestic violence and we must call out those who provide platforms to abusers,” she stated.
LUX Responds To The Backlash
Last night, LSA responded to the backlash in an official statement. The statement explained how the submission the platform receives are from the actors and channels themselves “as part of an open call for entries and consideration in the awards.”
It went on to explain that LSA is not involved in shortlisting, including or excluding submissions or nominations. “As part of our third party, independent and transparent voting process, which is audited end to end by PricewaterhouseCoopers, LSA cannot participate in short-listing, vetting or excluding any submissions or nominations,” the statement read.
LSA also clarified that “All shortlisted nominations, for the Viewers’ Choice Category for the LSA 2022 are a result of exclusive viewer voting without any intervention by the Awards.”
LSA also posted another statement which read, “The LSA believes in respecting the freedom and diversity of audience views, and does not regulate or limit engagement (except in cases of content with obscene or inappropriate language) on our social media platforms.”
