Weekly News Update (28 June-2 July’21)

Too busy to catch up on the week? Don’t worry, we’re here to give you a weekly round up of the hits, misses and news that made it to our social feeds. Read on to catch up! Here is a list of things that caught our attention this week:

pakistani actors

Bilal Abbas Khan speaks up!

A few days ago Bilal Abbas Khan’s interview to One Take which he gave in 2017 resurfaced in which he called Hania Amir cute. This was in answer to his question when he was asked whom he considered ‘hot’ from the current lot of actresses. His words were altered and presented differently to the audience by many media outlets. This angered Bilal who spoke up in frustration on twitter:

I have generally ignored the media, but I think it's high time that few platforms that call themselves ‘media’ need to understand that they have a certain responsibility of being credible towards the people they are writing about & the ‘news’ they publish for likes and traffic.

Well, we can’t say that he is wrong can we? More star news on the block includes:

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy vs Sonya Hussain

Another video that resurfaced which took the Internet by storm was a clip from Sonya Hussain’s interview with ‘The After Moon Show’ in which she said she would not do the movie Raees when asked which of the three Mahira Khan movies she will not do; Raees, Ho Mann Jahan and Verna. When asked the reason for her choice she said she prefers not to be a side character to a hero. To this, Sharmeen attacked Sonya and said that “she can never be Mahira Khan”. Sonya clapped back in full force and later many people in the industry supported Sonya.

We do wish that we don’t see our stars airing their emotions in public, especially on social media where millions look up to them. Firstly, for this to not happen such controversial questions should not be asked and actors should also try to refrain from passing any negative comments about their colleagues.

On that note, we have something positive for you!

What could be better than seeing the two Khan’s uplifting each other? Yes Ayeza Khan and Mahira Khan, both the super stars of our industry exchanged some pleasant words on Instagram. Ayeza Khan posted on Instagram to celebrate Mahira Khan’s 10 years in the Pakistani entertainment industry.

She went on and called her a living legend. Mahira replied to this with graciousness and said she was teary eyed. Seeing this exchange of complementary notes, Ayesha Omer and Nadia Hussain joined in the comment section praising both of them. This was just a breath of fresh air and we do need to see such pleasant exchange of notes from the actors in our industry.

Bilal Maqsood’s revival of old memories!

Bilal Maqsood touched base with his fans on Instagram and shared his first memory of meeting the Vital Signs. He shared that it was when they were recording their first album and he was star struck. The legend gave us a mash up-which we didn’t know we needed – of Strings hit song ‘Duur’ and and Vital Signs ‘Tere Liyay’ from the album ‘Hum Tum’. Fans went gaga over the mashup – what a treat! They expressed their love for both the bands. They also requested a full version and so do we!

Fakhr-e-Alam went on to twitter to praise the efforts of the government to encourage competition and minimize monopolies.

Just saw this news. No company should be allowed to have a monopoly. The people of Karachi deserve this. Should have been done earlier. Competition will force improved service. Thank you @GovtofPakistan & thank you @TabishGauharPK pic.twitter.com/N75M6KgHCi
