Matcha is a finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. It is traditionally consumed in East Asia, particularly in Japan, where it has been an integral part of tea ceremonies for centuries. Unlike other types of green tea, which are made by steeping the leaves in hot water and then discarding them, it is prepared by whisking the powder directly into hot water. Known for its numerous health benefits, including being high in antioxidants, boosts mental focus and alertness, enhances weight management and improves heart health.
The Japanese Matcha Tea House is Pakistan’s 1st All Matcha inspired Japanese Tea Experience, serving you the best ceremonial blend from Uji, Japan which as per our rigorous research showed is really where the best matcha is sourced from. It is located in DHA phase 6, Bukhari, Karachi.
Something new in town pops up and we don’t test it out? Wouldn’t be fair! So our team visited the very interesting new place. The Matcha Tea House boasts an incredible menu featuring a variety of extraordinary combinations. From matcha iced lattes, smoothies, and frozen and hot chocolate matcha, matcha lemonade, milkshakes, and even hot matcha soda – the options are truly unbelievable! Each offering comes with unique variations, incorporating flavors such as mango, coconut, rose, strawberry, and more.
Our Experience At The Newly Launched Teahouse
The tea house is a spacious, a very traditional Japanese style place. Right when you enter, the interior stays true to the name with prominent hues of greens used in the furnishings, art and branding. The most interesting part was the traditional Japanese style booths and seating arrangements. Should be perfect for intimate one on one’s or lowkey chilling and relaxing while sipping on some health or even for those cozy winter night beverage runs.
The staff was quite courteous, involved us in the process as they guided us along and gave us great recommendations! For instance, they recommended if some of us were trying out Matcha for the very first time, to not add a coffee shot in the drinks.
We tried the OG Iced Matcha & Rose Matcha Latte!
One thing is for sure, the drinks are a stunning shade of green!
The OG matcha iced drink delivers exactly what the blend’s enthusiast or connoisseur would anticipate – a smooth, sweet, and herbaceous blend. It essentially embodies green tea powder combined with milk, offering a pleasant experience that might also appeal to chai enthusiasts. Despite a slight chalkiness and powdery texture typical of matcha drinks, a more thorough whisking could likely enhance the overall consistency.
Undoubtedly, the Rose Matcha Latte stands out as one of the most intriguing and distinctive blends among the various drinks not just in Karachi but even in Pakistan. The sweet and herbaceous essence of the green tea blend harmoniously combines with the authentically natural notes and subtly sweet flavor profile of rose. Despite being slightly powdery, a more thorough whisking could have further enhanced the overall experience.
However, for our team members experiencing the blend for the first time, the reactions were hilariously varied – some found it bitter, while others perceived it as bland and promised not to ever trust us again but it’s worth noting that Matcha is a taste that you may need to acquire over time, and there’s a possibility you might come to love it. Nevertheless, it’s certainly worth giving it a try!
Our Verdict
They claim to use 100% authentic Japanese matcha, and it’s truly satisfying to witness the use of genuine, world-class ingredients being carefully prepared right before your eyes. As it was our team’s first time trying Matcha, the staff suggested refraining from adding a coffee shot to fully appreciate the flavor.
The Japanese Teahouse has the potential to win over matcha enthusiasts with its distinctive hybrid taste and the myriad health benefits it offers. If you’re a coffee aficionado trying the green blend drink for the first time, be prepared for a slightly fine, powdery texture. In terms of value for money, we can confidently say it’s worth it – considering its health benefits, imported quality, and the use of the finest ingredients! The OG Iced is priced at Rs. 445, and the Rose Latte is priced at Rs. 495.
