Sukoon – Aina opts to study and continue her life despite everything that has happened with her. Appreciating the drama taking a different route here. But should Aima’s marital rape have been dealt with so casually? As if it was a minor roadblock, to be cast away… now let’s move on to the next thing.

Aima & Hamdan’s Way Forward
Hamdan was taken aback when Aina tells him that: “my own family didn’t believe me and you being a stranger, are doing so much for me.” He was surprised that she didn’t mention the nikah or try to impose a relationship between them by virtue of that nikah.
We are happy that the writer chose to show that Aina is not just trying to make this forced nikah work, she has decided to study further and continue with life – a positive shift in the way stories are now responding to life events, guiding people towards more productive and empowering actions.
Marital Rape – A Gross Injustice
But, what really disappointed was the narrative’s treatment of marital rape. Marital rape is a life-changing event. It must not be dealt with in a casual manner. The manner in which it was shown in Sukoon, dismissed the gravity of the act and also the painful effect it has on its victim. Usman merely bickering with, or bullying Aima, or raging at her about one thing or another did not do justice to the moment. The entire scene just passed by with muted impact.
Usman’s mother didn’t even acknowledge that her son had violated his newly-wed wife, or acted without her consent. A voice-over or powerful expressions to show Aima’s torment might have created more impact and fully acknowledged. It communicated the horror one goes through after suffering this heinous act. But it seemed like it was just another minor mishap to be overcome, in the flow of the storytelling.
Aima’s Mother Disappoints
Aima’s mother – her selfishness is beyond comprehension. To save her own marriage, she sacrificed both her daughters and then too, she lost her husband’s trust.
It is ironic, Aima who really wanted to study couldn’t do it but Aina is getting the opportunity to further her education.
The Secret Will Be Out Soon!
We wonder till when Hamdan can keep his nikah a secret? If Aina is studying in the same city and will be staying with Hamdan, till when can he hide her away? They both seem to be living in oblivion.
