The transgenders’ rights bill which was enacted in 2018 has come into the limelight again after a Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) senator proposed to include amendments to the bill in Parliament. There are concerns that the bill will promote ‘homosexuality’ and same-sex marriages.
This claim, along with several; other transgenders has been refuted by Trans activist Aisha Mughal during an interview with Naya Dur Tv. She stated that the Transgender Persons Rules 2020 clearly mentions that a transgender person can only change their gender to ‘X’. Neither man nor woman. Hence, this negates the claims that a man can pass as a woman, or a woman can pass as a man.
Transgender people can get their ID cards changed in accordance with their self-perceived gender identity to gender “X”, this means you cannot change your gender from male to female or vice versa, Trans rules 2022 only allow “X” gender.

What The Transgender Protection Act Provides:
Prohibition against discrimination & harassment. The right to inherit, education, employment, vote, healthcare, access to public areas, property & more.
What This Act Does Not Provide:
There is no mention that a man can marry another man, or a woman can marry another woman in this 11-page long act.
Note: People with X on their CNIC cards are not allowed to marry!
People have their reservations about this bill however, the bill in no way allows or promotes “homosexuality.” What are your thoughts on the Transgender Protection Bill?
