Umera Ahmed’s ‘Pir-e-Kamil’ and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Heeramandi’ together, doesn’t make sense, right? Here’s what happened!

Umera Ahmed’s recent Facebook post sparked curiosity and some incredulous laughter as the celebrated Pakistani writer shared an intriguing still from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-anticipated series Heeramandi. In the snapshot, her renowned novel Pir-e-Kamil was spotted adorning the shelves of a Lahore bookstore, albeit in a setting pre-dating its actual publication in 2004. This unexpected cameo sparked a cascade of speculation among fans, with some playfully suggesting the possibility of time travel within the series (on a comic note!).

The post fast became a focal point for discussion, with fans dissecting the implications of Pir-e-Kamil’s appearance in Heeramandi. Many wondered whether this was a deliberate nod from Bhansali or if it hinted at deeper connections between the two narratives.

One follower noted the presence of Farnood by Juan Elia in another scene, adding to the series‘ mystique. This observation suggested a deliberate inclusion of literary Easter eggs, inviting viewers on a treasure hunt of sorts.

Another playful take on the situation came from a fan who humorously remarked, “Sometimes they leave minor details for our curious minds to find. ????” This light-hearted perspective added a touch of whimsical to the conversation, implying that these discrepancies may be intentional.

The notion of time travel found a vocal supporter in one fan who boldly declared, “Time travel is real.” This comment added an element of fantasy to the discussion, suggesting that perhaps the series’ creators have woven a complex web of temporal intrigue.

“This series is about history.” Noted one follower. “The positive role of Heeramandi for revolution. Ab history mn thori bhut fiction toh hoti hi ha we all aware about it.” Hmm guess that’s an angle we missed?

And a Pir -e- Kamil fan spotted in the comments section: “There is no doubt that Peer Kamil is one of the best books.”

However, not all comments were filled with levity. Some expressed disappointment with Heeramandi creators, with one commenter lamenting, “Even Peer e Kamil’s existence didn’t save the series, such a wastage of time epic disappointment.” This candid critique underscored the diverse range of opinions within the fanbase.

Well, do you think this convergence was an intentional move? What are your thoughts on Heeramandi? Are you okay with the oversight or you feel the creators needed to be more vigilant of the backdrop, seeing it is after all, the epic Sanjay Leela Bhansali putting on a show fit for the kings (and queens) of Bollywood cinema … oops, we meant, Netflix of course!

And now, if you haven’t watched it yet, perhaps you want to catch a glimpse of Pir-e-Kamil on a Lahore bookshelf, even in the pre-partition era, right? So go on, and tune into Heeramandi, it is a Friday night after all!
