Renowned stage and television actor Anwar Ali passed away in Lahore on Monday after battling multiple health complications.

Anwar had been suffering from lung and kidney ailments, heart problems, and paralysis in recent months, and his condition worsened over the weekend, leading to hospitalisation. Despite intensive care, he could not recover.
Anwar Ali was a celebrated figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, with a career spanning more than four decades. He performed in hundreds of stage plays, with some estimates exceeding a thousand, and appeared in over a hundred television productions. He gained widespread recognition through memorable roles in dramas such as Sona Chandi, Janjal Pura, Nishani, Khuda Bakhsh, and Andhera Ujala. On the stage, he was acclaimed for popular Punjabi plays including Paisa Bolta Hai, Nizam Saqa, No Lift, and Jahez. In later years, he also became a familiar face on comedy talk shows like Khabarnaak.
Throughout his career, Ali was honoured with several awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from PTV and recognition from the Punjab Arts Council. He was admired not only for his sharp comedic talent but also for mentoring younger artists and contributing to the revival of theatre in the country. In his later life, he gradually stepped away from show business to focus on religious and social activities.
