What exactly is going on in Yeh Dil Mera?
Addressing mental health and not a single scheming phuppo in sight!

Is Amaanullah Khan an ass? Is Noor ul Ain Zaman so naïve she can’t see past Amaan’s charming facade? Is Amaan even charming or is he simply a girl-digger? His chichora comment, “Mistakes tou waqai minor thi, per ek CEO ko apni intern ko baar baar apne office bulanay ke liye koi tou reason chahiye,” certainly validated the latter.
This Farhat Ishtiaq serial, starring Sajal Ali, Ahad Raza Mir, Adnan Siddique, Mira Sethi, Zarnish Khan, Paras Masroor, and Rabia Butt (phew) – is keeping me awake at night. No joke, I was up all night stalking the Yeh Dil Mera hashtag to gauge audience’s reaction before I wrote this review.

It didn’t help that most of the people who were tweeting about the show went with usernames like “Ahad Ki Sajal”, “Sajal My Baby”, “Ahad’s Kaynat” and if not that, their display pictures proudly presented a highly edited picture of either Ahad or Sajal or both.
In short, these were young girls in love with the couple’s love. The real one.

Were they to be trusted? Why not, they’re quite a helpful lot. They provided me with screenshots of the speedy Facebook chat that Amaan and Aina had in the last episode, and they were sweet enough to point out the similarities between Yakeen Ka Safar and Yeh Dil Mera, again with complete evidence of screenshots, making it much easier for me to go “Ah, so sweet”. If that’s a good thing or not; we’ll discuss later
After watching the promos, and one of the OSTS, I – being a regular OST-watcher of Pakistani dramas – have a fair idea of the plot.
Yeh Dil Mera – assumption based plot
Amaan (Ahad) saw his mum (Zarnish Khan) and dad getting killed. That led to him developing either a psychological disorder or simply deviant behaviour due to improper socialisation since he didn’t have his parents teach him about social norms. Unfortunately for Aina, and fortunately for Amaan, he is loaded and grew up to have a pretty decent face. A face that could look equal parts cute and creepy. Now this creepy-cute dude knows who killed his parents: Mir Farooq Zaman (Adnan Siddique).
Luckily for Amaan, Farooq-the-killer happens to have a gorgeous little daughter – Noor ul Zaman AKA Aina AKA Noor AKA Noor-e-Jaan. Doesn’t this make things all too exciting for our disturbingly young CEO? All he has to do is to woo this pretty little thing and fulfill the revenge that he’s been planning ever since he was a fetus; assuming that he has no qualms in using an innocent bystander (Aina) to achieve his “mission”.
BUT there’s a twist – which doesn’t seem like a twist because it is so predictable.
This creepy boy of ours was friends with Aina when they were kids, so being all Mogambo on her doesn’t come naturally to him. He’ll try nonetheless. And he’ll falter nonetheless.
Meanwhile, Aina lives in a bubble held up by Agha Jan AKA Farooq- who Amaan thinks is the killer, and Bua, and Ali Buksh – who I think are the real killers. She definitely seems to be suffering from PTSD. On the outside she looks like your cool next door neighbour, but on the inside she is a puppy scared to face the world on its own. Agha Jan is annoyingly protective of her and while he wants to elevate her mental health, he certainly doesn’t want her to find out what happened to her mother (Mira Sethi) at the train station that unfortunate night.
My Theory
One simple mishap led to three people losing their lives at the hands of Ali Buksh with probably the blessings of Mir Farooq Zaman. Amaan remembers the massacre. Aina’s mind has deleted it. Amaan thinks his only way to get back to Farooq is through his daughter.
While Amaan apparently loves to have a pompous Mr. Know It All air about him, he surely doesn’t realise that Aina is as much of a sufferer as him. Eventually, realisation will strike but so will cupid, leaving him with no choice but to woo Aina all over again.
Will Aina choose him, her father, or neither? We’ll find out in the last episode of Yeh Dil Mera. For now, suffer along and have a look at the major plot developments in the past five episodes:
