Agar Tum Sath Ho managed what many drama episodes try to accomplish yet often fail; it kept our interest alive despite merely nudging the story forward, a tad too slow, from where it left off. Now that’s quite a skill, considering we’re not complaining. The secret? Keeping the suspense going throughout the episode.

Will Farhan discover the truth before it’s too late?
From Ramsha and Farhan’s phone call to Naveen’s parents leaving for the wedding, and later, when Naveen declined Ramsha’s call in the car, one kept wondering if Farhan was about to find out the truth and raise hell (as is expected NOW).
The episode also gave us a Saahir-Ramsha conversation where Ramsha gets a glimpse into Saahir’s insecurity, Saahir has doubts about his decision but then brushes it away, merely because, well, he is Saahir, an undercover red flag, as red flags are for sure.
What stood out was Ramsha voicing her thoughts aloud, a moment many scripts ignore, and thankfully, the makers caught up here. Ramsha confided in her mother who, (like all mothers) advises her to refrain from mentioning Farhan too much, to which she protests (thankfully again), that how is that even possible when the three of them are so close? It is great to see Ramsha as the character who, although relatively docile and facilitating, does catch on to slight hints and here, her insights into Saahir might help her once Farhan reveals the truth to her, (about declaring his feelings for her to Saahir prior to the wedding.)
But will she believe Farhan, and, trick question, what can she do now that the act is sealed, as in, the marriage is done and dusted? Oh well, respond the drama makers, that’s for us to know, and you to find out.
Saahir’s Insecurities
While Saahir seems to be making a beeline for Ramsha, his inner complexes and insecurities plague him perpetually. From his dad uttering that Farhan would have got the cake already, to the smile he notes on Ramsha’s face when she talks to Farhan, it all seems to be affecting him deeply, yet he’s keeping his cool and working the plan he’s laid out. One wonders if his insecurities will worsen as he sees Ramsha and Farhan interacting with each other, and him the third person, the outsider who is always less fun and more work – two’s company, three’s a crowd might just become the rule book for this love triangle.
Farhan’s Relatability
But while the drama plays it strong with Saahir, we appreciate the subtle and relatable vis-à-vis Farhan’s reaction to Naveen. Although he’s kept his room off-limits and doesn’t give in to her repeated requests to meet up, he still behaves with tempered normalcy when she brings him daal chawal from home and also, takes her out in the evening. It is good to see Naveen taking a step back, as it makes her less of the “other girl” trope we have often seen and know so well in our dramas. However, Naveen’s parents have decided to take over that role and are already fixing the two of them for an impending link-up despite knowing Farhan’s interests lie elsewhere.
Oh well, conspiracies lie at the heart of Pakistani dramas and why should Agar Tum Sath Ho be any different?
Flawed parenting?
It is interesting to note how Agar Tum Sath Ho is messaging flawed parenting through both Saahir and Farhan’s fathers. Both fathers compare their sons with the other – Saahir, too serious and less fun loving, and Farhan, too non-serious and less hardworking. Both characters must deal with their father’s judgement calls which has subsequently caused them to harbour a different set of behavioural challenges, some overt and some, not too obvious to the casual onlooker, even Ramsha, who knows them both so well.
But on a final note, what pains us that Farhan has no idea that Ramsha and Saahir are getting married. It seems a bit odd that no one from the family has let it slip, that he does indeed have network at home and can be contacted, but we’ll put it down to an oversight in the script, or a reason to navigate the story in a certain direction. Perhaps a shorter duration between engagement and nikah for other reasons might have made the entire “keeping Farhan away” more credible?
Lastly, Ramsha now thinks Farhan likes a girl and she obviously has no idea it’s her. So let the games begin as Farhan heads back home, obviously livid at the news he’s just received.
Next episode of Agar Tum Sath Ho is bound to be a banger, and we know it!
