Bas Tera Saath Ho started off with a lot of criticism surrounding its storyline, with many calling it a copy/paste, an imitated version, or better yet, a continuation of Mere Humsafar with reversed roles. But the story has taken a completely different track and has now given us plenty of reasons to talk about it – and this time, in a positive way.

And just like that, Ansa saying a straight no to marrying Anas under the circumstances that they were in was quite satisfying for us to watch, since it did complete justice to her character, the Ansa who we saw in the beginning, who stood up for her rights, for the wrongs she saw around her, and everything in between. What the storyline did really well was it didn’t show Ansa being completely selfless and changed after the video incident happened. When she knew she didn’t do anything wrong, she didn’t compromise on anything, she didn’t become a damsel in distress, and this was so comforting to watch because it would’ve been very unfair to the audiences otherwise.
Last night, when we watched the very last scene where Ansa and Anas got nikkahfied in the mosque, the scene gave us a handful of reasons to talk about, to be proud of the writer-director duo for portraying our religion in its purest form and for not shying away from showing a girl taking part actively in what should be written in her Haq Mehar, and how Anas gave his all for Ansa because he wanted her to feel safe. Glad Anas didn’t get pressured by Mursaleen and kept his share to himself. One more thing that should be appreciated was the detailing of the scene, the Qurani Verse, them coming into the mosque, the verse seemed to have given them clear signals, and it was so soothing to watch all of it on screen.
“Rizq ka waada toh Allah ne kiya hai, jo khud khaaunga, isay bhi khilaunga.” Oh Anas, you have won us over.
Qasim Ali Mureed and late Saira Raza have truly outdone themselves here because we didn’t get to see these kinds of things enough in our dramas. It is so important, especially because a lot of the new generation is watching dramas these days, and this drama is delivering so many powerful messages through these small yet meaningful moments.
Anas also has shown us a very different side of masculinity that we rarely get to see on our screens, him being innocent, someone who would not speak up for his rights or against someone who does wrong to him, and then the same Anas standing up for Ansa in whatever way he could, handling all decisions into her hands so she doesn’t feel controlled and doesn’t feel like a bechari was a win-win. Now we know Anas could take everything but not any disrespect being thrown at people he loves, people who are dear to him, and that’s why we all are rooting for Anas-Ansa now. Can’t wait to see them fall for each other, that too, in the most unpleasant circumstances.
Farhan Saeed and Sana Javed both are doing impeccable jobs as their characters. You could see the fearless Ansa even now and a more mature, restrained but brave Anas!
