Naila and Haroon are your happily married couple with kids. What could possibly go wrong in this match made heaven? As we await the typical saas or ‘other’ man or woman trope, the drama intends to surprise us with trouble in marriage heaven with perhaps, relatable family issues?
It’s too early to know where Aik Chubhan Si will go, but the presence of Sonya Hussyn and Sami Khan on one screen means there’s more to the narrative than meets the eye. Here’s why we’re going to give this one a go.
The story seems a shift from the regular
There is no love story in the making with our hero and heroine turning starry-eyed on first meet. This Pakistani drama is about post marital (non) bliss, but not yet. Naila and Haroon are happily married and just when we wonder what’s going to go south with this relationship, we spot a husband who’s not too happy to service Naila’s family. However, the nuances are so subtle and relatable that we watch along because, perhaps, it’s the relatable in the story that got us.
Naila insists on looking after her chacha because he’s brought her up. Haroon submits, but a tad reluctantly, no toxicity (yet) in his stance. There is an element of curiosity in Maheen essaying Hira Khan’s character as she seems to have more up her sleeve wrt to the final scene in the first episode – watch to know more. Is there a hint of mystery, thrill or something else in the drama? The first episode laid the groundwork but also kept us intrigued enough to know more.
While the drama unfolds rapidly, we hope that the narrative will not fall prey to the usual overly stretched storylines and typical ‘other’ woman conspiracy.
Performances
Both Sonya Hussyn and Sami Khan share great onscreen chemistry and if you’re a fan of this couple, then Aik Chubhan Si is a drama you can take a chance on. The two appear comfortable onscreen and do justice to their characters, making them believable and true to life. Performances are not stilted and the sheer effortlessness of their interactions raises the drama watching experience a notch or two for viewers..
Fahad Sheikh plays Moiz, Hira’s cousin and his performance here is certainly upping the game from his past appearances. We’re not sure if it’s the direction, or Fahad, but we feel a bit of both has led to an onscreen look that is more subtle, less jarring and even evokes a hint of sympathy for the character, that too, in the first episode. We’re looking forward to more from him. Hira Khan’s character is bordering on the toxic though and we hope this one will prove to be more substantial and grey than what we watched onscreen so far.
