Once we decide to keep logic aside, we can actually begin to enjoy Ishq Murshid.

Once we accept that certain scenes are purely meant to add aesthetic value to the screen, and do not really need to make sense, we will stop questioning the reason for their existence in the drama. But let’s be honest, keeping all our reservations aside, we cannot resist the easy charm that is Fazal Baksh. And that probably, in a nutshell, summarizes the drama for present and future viewers. Ishq Murshid is a great example of the power of a single actor making the drama watch-worthy.
Fazal Baksh’s Easy Charm
Fazal Baksh keeps tugging at our heart. His relationship with Shibra’s mother is heartwarming and we love his concern for her. Well, Raj in DDLJ would wake up early morning to impress Simran’s father and Fazal Baksh wakes up early to offer prayers with Suleiman sahib in order to impress him. If that wasn’t enough, the scene with the real Fazal Baksh serving as waiter also seemed right out of some old Bollywood film.
Fazal Baksh is giving us cute, comic moments that make us smile. We happily anticipate his next antic. His attempt to impress people in the office also makes us laugh, and we are also with him when Shibra calls him. It was funny the way he asks her who she is.
A Balanced Stance Needed For Sukaina
Both Suleiman sahib and his wife are treading two extremes. He can probably just inquire if his son in-law deserves a job. That shouldn’t necessarily count as a sifarish. The mother can also chill a bit and stop getting emotionally blackmailed so easily by her nand. Her dialogues and anger were a bit too emotional. Now we wait to see how Shahmeer will solve this issue for the family.
Shibra’s Arrogance Might Just Take The Romance Test
Will Fazal Baksh make Shibra change and realize her arrogance? Will he make her fall for someone she never thought she would and initially looked down upon? Though she told Sukaina she didn’t look down on Fazal Baksh because he was poor, but in the very next sentence she implies he is beneath her by virtue of being a mere clerk when she will most probably be a commissioner.
Strange Goings On – Note To Self, It IS a Fantasy World!
We desperately want to enjoy the interactions between Shahmeer and Shibra but Shahmeer peeking at her through the roof was just plain sneaky and uncomfortable. Asking her to say sorry to him was also a bit strange and just not appropriate. How can he cross this line with her? Shibra going to a chai cafe, just because Fazal Baksh called her was totally weird. Does a story based on fantasy not require a healthy dose of logic? Shibra was right, it is an invasion of privacy for her to have a stranger present all the time, especially with two daughters in the house.
Fazal Baksh reading the book upside down was funny and made us smile along with Shibra. Let’s see if there will be more emotional moments and not just comedy that will make Shibra fall for him. Why do the characters keep sleeping on that uncomfortably strange platform? Even if it was to get more air, at least a different area could be chosen. But looks like the idea is to catch some aesthetic shots, and for that, sab chalta hai.
Fazal Baksh’s Disguise Might Work Magic, We Hope!
We wish Shahmeer had chosen Fazal Baksh to be educated yet poor, someone who could have been a more believable match for Shibra. Maybe we fail to understand that a highly educated and goal-oriented girl can go for someone who is almost like a servant in her father’s office and in her house. Or will Fazal Baksh’s disguise work its magic?
