Sequel season is in full swing – from cult classics to chaotic comebacks, the return wave is wild, nostalgic, and just the right amount of unhinged.

Sequel Season Is Here: The Movies We Can’t Wait to Obsess Over (Again)!

We’re deep into the era of cinematic déjà vu , but in the best way. The movies that once had us quoting every line, pausing for outfit inspo, or planning our whole personalities around them are coming back with sequels. And not just any sequels, the sequels. The kind that make group chats light up and entire timelines go into meltdown. Whether it’s 2000s nostalgia, couture chaos, or high-stakes whodunits, this lineup is stacked with fan favorites getting second (or third) chances to shine.

If you’ve ever yelled “that movie deserved a sequel!” into the void… congratulations. The universe heard you. Let’s break down what’s coming, what we know, and why we’re already emotionally invested.

The Devil Wears Prada 2

It’s been almost 20 years, but the grip Miranda Priestly has on our collective necks? Still iron-clad. And now she’s back, along with Andy and Emily, for a sequel that has all the makings of a deliciously ruthless fashion saga. Early reports say this time it’s Emily Charlton running her own brand, Miranda navigating the dying print world, and Andy maybe having to face the devil again. If you thought your toxic workplace flashbacks had finally healed, think again – the queen of icy glares and silent judgment is clocking back in, and we’re already stressed (and obsessed).

What makes this sequel extra exciting is that it actually makes sense. The fashion industry has changed, influencers rule, and legacy media is crumbling – watching these characters claw for relevance in 2025? Cinematic gold. Imagine Miranda having to deal with TikTok fashion week or Emily going head-to-head with a Gen Z intern who doesn’t know who Anna Wintour is. It’s giving stress, couture, and legacy panic, in other words, fashion drama at its absolute finest.

Bend It Like Beckham

The iconic 2002 film that gave us girl power, cultural clashes, and unforgettable free kicks is finally getting a sequel and it’s about time! “Bend It Like Beckham” wasn’t just a football movie; it was a coming-of-age rebellion, a love letter to defying expectations, and the reason half of us wanted to join a local football club in our teens (even if we immediately quit). Now, over two decades later, Gurinder Chadha is bringing the girls – and the goals – back, and the possibilities are juicy: grown-up Jess and Jules as coaches? A new generation of desi-British dreamers? More Punjabi aunties with side-eye? Inject it directly into our veins.

There’s no official plot yet, but the fact that Chadha is involved gives us hope it’ll keep that signature blend of heart, humor, and cultural chaos. Will Beckham himself make another cameo? Will the aunties still be scandalized by short-shorts? Can lightning strike twice for that iconic soundtrack? All we know is, if this film brings even half the spirit of the original – we’ll be cheering from the sidelines like it’s the World Cup.

Crazy Rich Asians

You ever watch something so extra it rewires your brain chemistry? That was me after Crazy Rich Asians – suddenly craving dumplings, couture, and a petty rich aunt to emotionally destroy me over Mahjong. I was literally in China at the time, so yes, I did have my fair share of dumplings while fantasizing about dramatic family revelations and sweeping proposal scenes. It was flashy, dramatic, and weirdly comforting in that “I live for chaos that isn’t mine” kind of way. So obviously, I’ve been waiting for the sequel like it’s a royal wedding.

The next movie, China Rich Girlfriend, is set to be even messier, with Rachel discovering her long-lost dad is basically the Elon Musk of China, and Astrid dealing with love triangles, gaslighting, and generational wealth problems most of us will never have. Plus, there’s a third one (Rich People Problems) on the horizon. It’s giving crazy, it’s giving rich, and it’s giving me another excuse to spiral into wedding envy and designer wardrobe delusions. Let’s go.

Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man

Look, we don’t have Chris Evans in that sweater this time and yes, that’s devastating, but we do get Daniel Craig back with his mysterious Southern drawl and an entirely new set of chaotic rich people to interrogate, so all is not lost. The Knives Out universe is like if Clue had a drama degree and a stylist – deliciously messy, deceptively clever, and always a little unhinged. Every time someone says “eat the rich,” Rian Johnson delivers a murder mystery where someone might actually do it.

Wake Up Dead Man promises another round of glass-smashing, eye-darting, murder-solving madness, and frankly, I’m seated. We’ve got Josh O’Connor (a certified sadboy), Cailee Spaeny (post-Priscilla slay), and the wildcard: Glenn Close. Like, you know it’s about to go down when she enters the mansion. Will it top the first one? Who knows. But will I analyze every sweater, accent, and red herring like it’s my full-time job? Absolutely.

Wicked: Part One (For Good)

It’s time. We’re going somewhere over the rainbow but with belts so high they might shatter glass. Wicked is flying to the big screen, and it’s got all the drama: witches, betrayal, and Defying Gravity with actual gravity-defying VFX. Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba is going to sing us into oblivion, and Ariana Grande is already giving pink puffy Glinda realness. Many have been prepping for this moment since they first heard “Popular” and decided it was their entire personality.

The movie’s split into two parts because you can’t rush drama this iconic, and if the trailer’s anything to go by, it’s going to be sparkly, emotional, and very extra. It’s not just a musical; it’s a cultural reset in emerald tones. We’ve got friendship fallouts, origin stories, and maybe even political allegory if you squint hard enough. Whether you’re Team Elphaba or just here for the high notes, one thing’s for sure: we’re not in Kansas anymore.

Freaky Friday

It’s official – Freaky Friday is making a comeback, and yes, with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis back in action. Honestly, this is the kind of nostalgic chaos we all need. The original was hilarious, heartfelt, and weirdly comforting – nothing like watching a mom and daughter switch bodies to make you appreciate your own mess of a life.

This time, there’s talk of grandkids, new generations, and maybe even more body-swapping drama. I’m just excited to see these two together again, bringing their classic energy and hopefully a few emotional guitar solos too. Whether you’re watching for the comedy or just to relive the early 2000s, this sequel feels like coming home to a familiar kind of fun.

Sequels usually make me nervous – will they ruin the original? Will they be soulless cash grabs? But honestly, these ones feel like catching up with old friends who’ve been through some stuff but still know how to put on a show. Whether it’s couture claws coming out, rich people crying in mansions, or body-swapping moms and daughters trying to survive another Friday – I’m seated.

Bring on the drama, the nostalgia, and the chaos. I’ll be watching with popcorn in one hand and way too many feelings in the other.
